russdy
Was wondering if any of the pw faithful own 1 of these and have abit of an opinion on them. Is it true they are in the £400 tax range or is that false info from a bloke in work

russdy
Just had a look at that link mate and seems the better spec are more to tax whats that all about haha. Are they as thirsty as ppl say ?
stuey
Pathfinders registered before 23rd march 2006 are capped at band K which is £270 per year. Anything after that is in the higher tax bracket until new models registered from 1st April 2010 which have dropped back into band K which is £270 per year. As to mpg, my inboard computer is pretty accurate, and a few weeks ago I reset it. Drove 40 miles of a and B roads at no more than 55/60 mph and got an indicated 43mpg when I reached home!! Have since done 1200 miles and it is reading 35.8mpg. Did 140 miles today to Carlisle and back which took the mpg reading from 34.9 to the 35.8 figure, so those 140 miles today must have been very economical to bring the 1200 mile average up by 0.9 mpg. Think the older ones are a bit more economical than the newer engines though. I also run mine with 250ml of 2 stroke oil per tank which has quietened the engine and is supposed to help with mpg too. Cheers Stu Edited February 19, 2013 by stuey
russdy
Thats good id heard tales of less than 30mpg and that was normal driving not killing it either. The ones ive seen were 55-06 regs so the tax should be in the £240 range which isnt as bad as i forst thought
stuey
If you look at an 06 just check the date of registration to be sure. I think the autos are a bit more thirsty and if you cane it it will plummet too. The beauty of them is the 6th gear is geared for 30mph per 1000 revs so at 60 it is only doing 2000 revs. Anyone getting under 30mpg must be hammering it!!! russdy
ok cheers for that mate. how do you find they drive ive read mixed reviews saying there not the best on the road.i dont do many miles a year maybe 12000 max
stuey
Handling is fine. Sometimes when people review cars like the pathfinder I think they forget it ain't a sports car they are driving!!! Yes a range/land rover will handle better but at twice the price. Cheers Stu i get the same mpg as described. my pathfinder is a 55 plate and my bro bought a 06 model and gets stung with the higher tax, so watch out!!! interesting to know the new models drop down a band. Chris123
I have owned 3 of the Nissan range, 2 navaras and 1 pathfinder. They are a fantastic day to day car BUT if you are going to work it hard then look for something else. Ive had a Navara D22, Navara D40 and 2007 Pathfinder and can honestly say they are very unreliable once you start to push them hard. My Navara D40 and pathfinder had clutch problems from the word go, gearboxes leak and 4wd sensors fail, ABS sensors are in daft places so if you off road they get choked up and ABS lights come on. The fuel economy was well into 30's when driven sensibly and drops to late 20's when pushed hard. I eventually gave up on Nissan and bought a Mitsubishi shogun, way more reliable but bit more expensive to run. If you are looking to run a pathfinder as a day to day 4x4 with a bit of green lane then yes they're a great car. Other than that, look elsewhere. russdy
thanks for that. it wouldnt be doing any massive off roading just around the shoot fields and things nothing too heavy. its just the tax thats putting me off at the minute ive bben looking for a 55 reg but carnt seem to find one that the lower tax band. like a needle in a haystack haha
Chris123
I managed to dodge this by buying a commercial Navara and i never taxed the pathfinder as it came with 12 months and i only kept it 10 months. Have you considered a commercial Navara? The tax is based on a van regardless what you have so its only just over £200 every year (£210 from memory) and you get all the mod cons you get with a pathfinder if you get the Outlaw or Aventura. Tyres, parts and servicing are all the same price as they are basically the same car but with a huge loading bed to put gun safes and other shooting related **** in. Something for you to think about. hope this helps.

All 05 and 55 plates and some 06's will be capped. If you ring anyone just ask what their annual road tax fee is - it should be printed on the tax disc. russdy
there was a 55 plate on ebay and when i spoke to the owner which was a private seller they said it was registerd 7-2005 or something close but said they pay the £400 tax which i wasnt expecting, thats why i posted about the tax again. MITCHF
£400 - £270 = £130 / 12 = £10.83pm = £2.70pw I'd have the one I want, age , mileage and spec etc etc. Is an older high miler worth the saving
russdy
Haha worked out like that makes it seem not as bad. I think its £460 the higher band to be honest so thats proberbly only another 30p extra a week
