Buying A Daystate Huntsman

Hello lads.

Iv been thinking of buying a Daystate Huntsman for a while now and after reading very positive reviews on the rifle, i was set to buy one this Saturday coming. Well that was before i just flicked through a torrent of bad reviews from another airgun forum i stumbled across. Members on there were telling others about all the problems they have had with their Huntsman. Mostly bolt and mag not working in unison and jamming, others saying things about constant low power output of about 8 to 9ft lbs even after coming back from Daystate after a supposed service to rectify the lower output. Slugs being double loaded up the barrel and jamming that way and all sorts of other stuff.

This has got me thinking very hard now about buying a Huntsman and potencially wasting a pile of hard earned cash in one swoop of the debit card. And its a pity because up till now i had my heart set on buying one.

Any Huntsman owners on here experienced any kind of faults iv mentioned above or ones i haven't mentioned. Any honest feed back would be great. Im not going down to the gunshop till this Saturday. So plenty of time post you comments on the Huntsman. They could sway the odds either way as what i will do, like buy or not

Thanks

IMO they are talking total utter tosh,, i,ve had a huntsman since last september and not had a mechanical fault what so ever, the only problem i had was when i bought the rifle it was averaging 10.6ftlb on the chrono,i rang daystate and i offered to pop it in, two days later i was down at the daystate factory with my rifle being tuned by their experts, they tuned it to average 11.6ftlb and even gave me two tins of pellets aswell free of charge, they gave me a printout of the chrono results and sent me packing feeling as if i had been very well treated

so i have not had a single problem, i even got them to swap the bolt over from chrome to a black one,, i use my rifle in the field and on targets at least 4 times a week and as i say i have not had one problem with the huntsman classic .22, they truelly are a fantastic rifle, and also very accurate so dont listen to the rubbish being spoken on other forums

Cheers Evo mate for your post. Looks like your the only Huntsman owner on here from the lack of responce.

As for listening to people on other forums, it was more the case of reading reviews on the Huntsman and that forum came up, so i started reading the reviews. It took me back a bit more,as more often then not Daystate themselves as well as the Huntsman was getting ripped apart by the forum members.

So i thought i would ask on here to see if any of the faults that were mentioned repeatedly by them, actually do occure on these guns. As its a lot of money to spend on a gun that could potencially give me a shed load of problems after purchase. Cant blame any man wanting a second opinion before spending their hard earned so to say.

Hello Terry mate

Im doing ok thanks butt. I have been looking at the Ranger but decided it was a little to bulky for hunting so decided to go for an Huntsman as you have read. Just found it to be a beautiful gun to handle and would be an ideal light weight hunting rifle for me to have a walk around with.

But those posts i read from that other forum just made me feel a bit uneasy comitting to buying an Huntsman so thought it would be good to seek out some feed back off here. I'l give that fella a pm in a bit and ask his opinion if he's that good for info on Daystate rifles.

Hi Gar yes the huntsman is a nice rifle to hold. Jerry is a great lad met him other week at the Shooting Show he was in charge of the Daystate shooting range.

He has shot all of the models and as i said knows more than most i'm sure. He uses his for pest control so you will get sound advice mate,ATB Terry

Its a new rifle im after mate. Thinking of buying it from Daystate itself if i can, if not then its either Sportsman GC Newport or The Airgun Center in Essex and have it posted through to my home. Only trouble is deciding what caliber to have it in as iv read their deadly accurate in both calibers. If all is well i'l have one buy Sat afternoon.

Let you know how i get on with it

Thanks again mate

no problem, mine is a .22 but a lot of the lads prefer the .177, i personally picked the .22 for the more punch at 35 to 40yrds, seems to kill everything it hits, just as a point,i,ve tried all the pellets through mine and it is fantastic with the jsb 15.89 grain exact,s but not much diff between the .177 and .22 except for the normal stuff , flatter trajectory etc, so for me personally it was the .22 just for the extra thump at 35 yrds, one thing i would put my life on is you will not be dissapointed buying a huntsman classic

Sorry I havent responded sooner, I dont understand why I didnt spot this thread, I can only think its becuase it isnt in the air gun section.

I have 2 Daystates (1 x .177 MK 4 sub 12ftlb, 1 x .22 FAC Huntsman @ 30ftlb)Both use the same magizine style just specific to each calibre, in total I have 4 magizines........Ive never, not once had a single niggle or miss feed or magizine issue with any of my magizines in any circumstances and ive put a good few pellets though them so more than tried and tested.

The bolts on both are silky smooth to opperate, a nice size, well made and opperate very well. Ive used them for hunting and HFT respectively in hot, cold, wet, dry and the dark! I cant see how anyone can complain about them.

I love my current Huntsman so much so that if I gave up my FAC at any point I would buy another Huntsman sub 12 ftlb and put the stock on it as I have such a beautiful peice of wood on my FAC Huntsman.....

Having said that we get married this year but what I havent told the Mrs yet is am already planning on next year saving for another huntsman in sub 12ftlb but in .20 .

Customer service is second to none, they deliver everying you ask for and more! I needed 2 new grub screws for mine last week for the barrel showd as I had been a muppet and knocked them off the table and lost them, I called Daystate at 16:50 on wednesday and FOC on Friday lunch time with the post arrived 2 new grub screws with a compliments slip. Thankyou very much Rachel at Daystate again buy the way ! :D

I bought Daystate for quality and support and am very happy. My MK4 is due a service later this year, am not scrimping and getting someone else to do it, its going to Daystate and as they are just up the road am taking it direct and collecting it so royal mail or anyother courrier cant kick it around for me.

If you ever in the area your more than welcome to come and have a shoot with either of my Daystates :D

Also you will always find Tony Belas on a daystate stand and he`s a great chap too and will answer any question you like and always make the effor and takes his time to help and he`s the MD so you cant get much higher up than that.

If you search my poasts you will se the thread i did on my Huntsman last July when I got it with pictures ! :D You will also see a thread i did not so long ago where am considering selling my .17HMR as its not getting the use since I got my FAC Huntsman :D And it will also contibute a bit towards the .20 Huntsman and the medical care I will need when my Mrs finds out !

Calibre wise in sub 12ftlb I would personally choose either .177 or .20 ! Theres pro`s and cons with each but really nothing to worry about its just down to pellet availability but when I get my .20 huntsman what i will do is find a peelet it likes and buy a sleeve (10 tins) of the same pellet with the same batch number so all are identical and 5000 pellets will last me over a year esp with 2 other daystates on the go :D So pellet supply wouldnt be an issue at all :D

Any questions you have feel free to ask, also I have regulary used: AA S410, FX Cyclone, HW100, Rapid 7 so am not in experienced either.

Thanks for the write up Sniper mate iit was a interesting read. Hopefully off down to Sportsmas GC Newport in the morning to get an Huntsman, im phoning this afternoon to see if they have got any in. If not i'l order one and pick it up when it comes back.

I was hoping what i read wasn't true and by the looks from the feed back iv had off her, most of the **** i read was just that (****).

Cant wait to get one now to be honest as iv wanted one since l got hold of one up the Midland Gamefair. Just whoosed quality an thought it was a lush light weight gun that would be a treat to use out in the field.

Did think about a .20 cal but like you said its lack abundant ammo for it so may just stick with .22. Like your good self i too pick the best pellet for the gun and buy in batches as to have same serial number all way through. Thanks for the link mate very much appreciated.

Let you know how i get on after i get my rifle

If your going FAC go .22 but if your going sub 12ftlb I am a big convert to .177 !

So jellous...... I may have to spend the weekend finding bits to sell and auction off to get the next Huntsman fund started !

Please keep us posted how you get on to and photos of your purchase, the Daystate MK5 Airstram reflex silencers are also very good too :D

I just rang Sportmans Gc now an they haven't got any in till middle to end of next week. They are only having 2 calibers in and their the standard .22 an .177

so i got a week to finally decide what cal to go for. Iv only had one .177 cal rifle an that was a Webley Eclipse years ago an to be honest i didn't like it, but

i know technology has come a long way since then, so may opt for that cal for a change. May be less shots but more accuracy an a bit longer shot range.

Im getting all the trimmings with it like the new Mk5 silencer to go with it an may have slings an swivels put on as well, so i can use the stud for a bipod.

Soon as i get my new beast i will get my techno wizard to show me how to put pictures on here again. As its been a while since i managed to post one by myself

an forgot the proccess lol.

Cant see me going for FAC rated as iv just put in 1 for 1 variation of my ticket from .17hmr to .22 rim so that will do any long range work if needed. But i'm not

ruling one out in future if this one stands up to its high praise an name. 30 shots is enough for most sessions out in the field so could be a usefull tool where

the rimmy may not be able to go.

Ironically I got rid of my .22lr as a 70 yard quiet bunny gun in favour of the FAC air as I have the HMR for long range and fox !

But still pleased for you :D

What scope will you put on it ?

ATB

Matt

To be honest Matt i'm not sure mate. May go for a 4x12-50 scope but what make is uncertain, could go for an Hawk like the Endurance scope or a MTC Optic like the Viper or Mamba.

As the MTC scopes are often seen on Daystate rifles an i liked the look of them up the Midland Gamefair. But what ever i have on there, they and the rifle together will account for many

a crow an rabbit in the bag and what ever other vermin i set my eye on :good: :good: :good:

I can assure you mate you won't regret buying a Daystate Huntsman.

I have an Air Ranger,an X2 and the Bullpup 2000 -all Daystates and they are wonderful to own and stunning to shoot.

The Huntsman is no exeption and as with all Daystate rifles you are buying Quality and their Customer Service is nothing short of Superb!

I have never ever had a problem with the bolt or jamming of the mag in all the times I've shot my Daystate rifles.

All the best Gar and keep us informed when you've bought your rifle.

I do a lot of vermin control and I have a number of springers and 7 PCP`s here is the list.

1/ Hatsan AT 44 10 w .22 cal Walther match barrel very accurate 10 shot Rifle.

2/ Logun MK1 professional .22 cal outstanding rifle very accurate 10 shot.

3/ Logun Solo .177 cal very well made and very accurate 10 shot.

4/ Logun Solo .22 cal "" "" "" "" "" " " " 10 shot .

5/ Titen MCO10 .22 cal " " " " " " " Single shot Fitted with Night vision.

6/ BSA Super 10 Bull barrel in .177 cal very accurate 10 shot Rifle.

7/ DAYSTATE HUNTSMAN FTR .177 cal very very accurate Single shot.

Outstanding Quality Rifle and I have to say it will out shoot all of the above at long range target shooting.

The Rifle still manages to surprise me just how accurate it is after a lot of years.

Cheers all for your feed back, much appreciated all round. Sportsman GC said they wont have any Huntsman rifles till mid to end of next week, maybe longer.

So iv decided to wait for another 3 weeks till next pay on 15th of March to go and get one. That way i'll have enough to spend on a decent scope for it.

But will defo let you know how i get on with the gun in near future. Pictures will be put on of said new set up and hopefully of my kills i get with it.

Thanks again lads
