Gibbybox
Hi folks, I'm new to this shooting/cooking malarky so forgive me if this is obvious. I have a few pheasant breasts in the freezer which have quite a few pellet bloodied holes in them and am concerned that a few of the pellets haven't passed through. What method do you use for removing lead shot from the meat? I don't want to put the family off game by biting into a solid metal ball while enjoying a lovely meal... Thanks in advance, Andy

chrispti
I use a lead magnet to extract the shot out of my game.
karpman
Put the point of a Sharp knife in the hole or skewer and push through, then just wash it out. Only bother if I'm feeding it the kids. Karpman
FalconFN
I use a lead magnet to extract the shot out of my game. That's the old fashioned way, I prefere to cook them quickly but at a high temperature so the lead just melts out of it.
FalconFN
Seriously though, if you are worried about it you could give them the once over with a metal detector, a good one should tell you if there is anything in there.
Gibbybox
Thanks for the replies, ye a few pellets don't bother me but I've got a big enough job convincing the family to eat game that I shoot without them breaking their teeth haha! Chrispti, I'm interested in your method of using a magnet. What make do you use, I'd imagine it has to be pretty strong to pull out shot embedded in breast meat? chrispti
Its a magnetic rod, you pass it through the pellet holes and the shot sticks to the rod. Zapp, the moderator has a load of them, pm him I'm sure he'll sort you out.
