crashking
I used my webley&scott 912 in the rain the other day (the first time its been that wet). I used it last weekend and found the stock to feel rough and lost its sheen. What would you guys recommend to put the smoothness and sheen back in it? answers on a post card please. figgy
Bit of very fine grade wet and dry with some walnut oil like Phillips oil. Just wet stock and paper with a little bit of oil and rub wet n dry with the grain till it feels smooth and leave to dry, then give it a coat by hand a couple of drops of oil rubbed in till hand hot and gets wood warm. SakoQuad
as above but using 0000 grade steel wool instead of wet & dry. When dry lightly wipe off / polish with cotton cloth to remove any bits of wire wool that might be on surface then put the second coat on using your hand, again as above
figgy
Be carefull with wire wool I used it in the past and bits broke off on the whiskers and got stuck in the grain I couldn't get out. Fine sand paper or wire wool with the finish oil and wood dust will act as a grain filler smoothing the wood out a bit. Good advice on wiping off excess with a lint free cloth, I tend not to put much on so a quick rub with palm to finish does me. Frenchieboy
I always palm a few drops of wallnut oil into the woodwork of my shotgun after every outing. I believe (Rightly or wrongly) that this helps towards keeping the woodwork more waterproof if you do use it in the rain and it also keeps the gun looking good! kent
Firstly its cart and horse. "what should I put on the stock before I take it out on a wet day" might be better. Never add anything to a slightly moist stock, get it totally dried out first, it sounds like your stock is a bit hungry and needs feeding some more oil, maybe even grain sealer first
