Boiling muntjac head

Skin the head being careful not to scratch the skull. Remove as much flesh eyeballs etc as you can. Then boil (outside is best) in a large pot. Put a small handful of clothes washing powder in the water as this helps degrease it. Keep antler out of the water (use a coat hanger wire to hold it up). Boil gently for an hour. Pick head clean of remaining flesh and use wire to pull out brain.

Let dry, then cover skull (not antlers) in blobs of cotton wool soaked in sodium peroxide (get strong stuff from chemist) over night. Remove cotton wool and let dry.

Muntjac can be very fragile but for larger deer you can just skin the head, then dump it in a bucket of water for a few weeks (stinks a bit though) and then just pressure wash it off and if done properly, it cleans it completely without even a need for further bleaching or degreasing..

I've never done it to a muntjac but would guess the same thing would work if you had a good quality pressure washer you could wind the pressure down on and with a degree of caution.

If you have a few months on your hands BURY it, leave any antler showing.

Comes out clean and everything gone, you may wish to bleach for real white.

Be careful if you have any squirrels in the area, they may chew the antlers.

In the main summer months you can also hang it in a tree, the flies and maggots do their stuff quite quickly, but not a pretty sight or smell usually.

Never use normal houehold bleach as the chlorine attacks the bone and makes it powdery.

When boiling just turn the heat down when the water starts to move on the surface

When all the flesh is removed (and brains) as best you can put in a hydrogen peroxide bath to soak (I use a ratio of one bottle of peroxide to two bottles of water) and leave to work for several days. Keep changing the solution with fresh until all the tissue has been dissolved.
