henry d
I was at a partridge shoot today and the second drive was next to a road which is pretty quiet.Everyone was told and it was pretty obvious where it was. When the horn for the end of the drive went the pickers up started..............you know where I`m going with this One of the dogs,a very well trained dog, turns on a scent and jumps the wall into the path of a 4x4.I can still hear the bang and thankfully that was the only noise. It put a real downer on the day So remember to put your dog on a lead when near a road......always!!

henry d
That's a real shame Did you know the lad who's dog it was? Yes and we had a nice conversation earlier in the day I had picked a load of chestnuts and another friend had given me a load of Lapua brass for my 6.5 and I got a brace of Teal........I`d have swoped it all and more for it not to happen. pin
Your right kirky, its the quiet alone moments when we remember and so we should. Some mike take kirky's view as harsh, in the fullness of time he's always going to be right.
ziplex
Got to be right, and yep the quiet times are when you reflect most, but the old duffer wouldn't want anyone to mourn for too long. Not only that this gun will be a constant memory as every other time I spoke to him, he'd say 'you got your gun yet'? , (twinkle in his eye whilst the old duck looked skyward)! Suffolk shooter
I'm sorry to hear of this happening Henry d, but at least the dog was doing what it was bred for and loved doing and not being mistreated by some *******. My condolences to the gu whose dog it was To the other couple of lads on here who mentioned about their family members dying, I know how it feels, I lost my mum to cancer not six weeks ago in september after being given the all clear only eight weeks previously. Her and my Dad had emigrated to Oz five years ago to enjoy a better life, which for the most part they did. My sister joined them 3 years ago. The last two months have been the worst in my entire life, In June my sister phoned to say she was expecting her first kid. One and half weeks before my mum passed she lost my Nephew Charlie (Born extremely premature) 10 minutes after he was born. I got the quickest flight I could out there, but sadly missed my Mum by eight hours. I never got to say goodbye, but deep down, I know that she'd hate for me to get down and in fact she'd tell me to pull my socks up as I have a wife and two kids to look after and I have dreams that need to be fulfilled. Life is for living, as we are but a short time alive, but a long time dead. To friends, relatives and pets past and present, I say cheers

darebear
tragic accident henry. let's not all lose sight of the 'keep the dog on a lead when near roads'. because that kind of death was preventable.

Exactly,no matter how good you think your dog is ! I know he will beat himself up about it but I hope that it will be a lesson for us all,a lead is mandatory near a road as far as I`m concerned.
