V8 90
They do - but the forum throws up the odd bargain ! Their kit is good though !!
viking
what about a superwinch, champion or a warrior, are they rubbish?
V8 90
Super winch are "ok" - TDS Goldfish are better (if they still do them) I used to run a Warn XP 9.5 with Synthetic Rope up front & a TDS with Synthetic at the rear - neither of them ever let me down. Dr_evil
ramsey worm drive or a husky will never let you down
viking
now your just adding more names and confusing me. i will probably get it from the electric winch shop in bradford, so my choice will have to come from there
viking
what about this http://www.paddockspares.com/goodwinch-tds-9-5c-winch.html
V8 90
Yes they're very good for the ££'s that's what I used at the rear of my 90 - it was submerged & abused loads of times - never let me down !
houlsby
I found them to be more expensive than most.. There's a shop in Newark where I got my winch from was £40 cheaper and offered free delivery too.
viking
rite chaps, after your kind help iv narrowed it down to 3. warn 8k 12v £534 super winch tigershark 9500 £348 goodwinch 9500 £478. what do you think, (im guessing you will all say warn) and do you have to have the big fairlead, or can you have the smaller one as in the picture. thanks again, lee
796
Might be worth getting a pulley or snatch block as they double your winching power
viking
this is just getting well confusing now, whats a pully and a snatch block. also, is there anything else i will need that doesnt come with the winch, bearing in mind i will only be driving round farms, not hardcore off roading. and, given ther price of synthetic rope, do i really need some, what are the benefits, thanks, Lee
Dr_evil
Tiger is a good entry level winch, warn is an upmarket entry. Your call on that The small fairlead is for plasma rope ONLY! The big one is for steel ONLY! Pulley is as it sounds its a pulley, with a few of them and some smart mechanics you can tow yourself backwards whilst winching forwards As to a snatch block it basically just doubles the line up so you can double the pull of the winch but halve the speed
viking
been into electric winch shop today in bradford. told the guy which ones i were interested in.(the ones 3 or 4 posts up) he said that the warn tabor ones are not made by warn, they have just put there name to it. i think he said the same about the tiger shark and that they were not very good. they no longer stock goodwinch. he said id be best off with the superwinch talon 9.500 steel £504 or, same talon with synthetic rope for £672. then he also said the warrior samurai range were good too. c12000 steel £390 c12000 synthetic £564 c9500 steel £354 c9500 steel HS £420. dont know what the HS stands for c9500 synthetic £498 c9500 HS synthetic £
Dr_evil
I wouldn't bother with them, for £500-£600 if thats your budget buy a Warn 8274 off ebay or a husky superwinch with wire rope and it will never let you down!
viking
been to the electric winch shop today in bradford. bought a superwinch talon 9.5 with synthetic rope. terafirma winch bumper, some battery leads, tree strop, bow shackles, and a pully block. just need it fitting now. thanks for everyones help and advise. lee
Dr_evil
I'da still gone for a second hand Warn 8274 Not a bad winch but a very good second hand is always better than half decent new one IMO
V8 90
The superwinch will serve you well as long long as you don't submerge it - remember if you're gonna use it in the middle of nowhere you need something to winch off !!
viking
im sure it will be ok for what i need it for, and if needs be i can always up grade. and i plan on buying some sort of ground anchor too, as most of the land i shoot on is without trees, any ground anchor info will be greatfully recieved. cheers, Lee Edited April 5, 2013 by viking
Dr_evil
Ground anchor is a ground anchor tbh buy what you like the look of and which one looks sturdy! Personally I quite like the military spike ones or D44 seem to get a good write up but expensive!
V8 90
The D44 1 is the Dogs - I used to have 1 - Nearly all the big challenge boys use them, the X-Eng ones are very good too. The main problem is where to carry one in your truck ! I used to have mine fixed to my internal roll cage & the blade in secured tool box. Dr_evil
I don't rate x-eng, all their stuff looks overpriced IMO then again being in an engineering workshop all day you get to know how to make these things and how much steel is actually put into it etc etc Their spot lights are total ****
viking
well iv been looking into ground anchors the last couple of days, i decided to go for the D44 as the blade comes of so wont take up as much room, cheers, Lee
viking
any one any experience with this sort of ground anchor? cheers, Lee
Dr_evil
those are the army style pin ones, I like them as they don't take up much space never tried one though, waiting for my husky first
