Fudge40
Hi, I used to shoot air rifles a number of years a go. only a springer (norica dragon) to be honest. not a bad gun for what I paid for it. I then stopped shooting air rifles in favour of a shotgun. I'm now thinking of getting an Air rifle again so I can shoot Pigeons near to the farmers buildings and shoot them out the trees. Iis the above BSA any good and would I need much more equipment as I have only had experience with springers. I have attached a link also of the full advert http://www.theairguncentre.com/online-shop/bsa/417-bsa-emerald or is there a better set out there to get me going again Many thanks in advance Edited March 26, 2013 by Fudge40
retromlc
Hi Fudge,I'm relativly new returnee to airguns and bought a HW100S,fantastic by the way,but for hunting I find it a bit heavy. So I saw the Emerald ltd and like it's balance and weight,it's got a pratical sling and the scopes provided are perfectly usable for hunting and plinking.I've put about 300 pellets throught it and it's bedded in nicely(if they have too?) i fitted a HW moderator anf this makes it superbly quiet,it may even be quieter than the HW100 as the hammer noise is quieter. The trigger is adjustable but not as nice as the HW trigger as it's not really 2 stage,it's more "continue to squeeze until it fires" i prefer to take up slack and next pull releases the pellet of the HW,but I am getting used to it and it's not a sticking point,it's very accurate, the jury is out as to if it's as accurate as the HW,but i've had consistant groups simular using both rifles so it probably is. and has taken plenty rabbits and a crow already, using AA field, same as in the HW.it's a better hunting rifle as it's short and the synthetic stock takes the worry about damage out. so you would need a moderator and a filling option, either bottle or manual pump. As for the rrp,I bought mine from Country Ways in West Malling and they sell them for £465, and you'd get 10% of accessories so a HW mod would be about £44 instead of £49 and I got a free tin of AA's,bit of a bargin at that money me thinks. I just tested them back to back at 33 meters and they are both the same ,any stray (2-3mm) is down to me Edited March 26, 2013 by retromlc
bruno22rf
If I were in your shoes I would look around for an S410,if you are going to be spending that kind of money then try before you buy-shoot the guns but dont forget to LOOK closely at the beast as well,Is the blueing flawless?,does it have a Walther Lothar barrel?,Is it held together by quality bolts or cheap roll pins? Its a buyers market out there so dont rush in and dont feel obliged to shop locally-if the price is cheaper elsewhere then most decent companies will do next day delivery.Haggle-even on delivery charges.
