Skoda Yeti - Update

This post is for anyone considering a Skoda Yeti.

I got one as a company car just over two years ago - previous to this the 4 x 4's that I previously had (as company cars) were two Subaru Foresters and a Skoda Octavia 4 x 4.

You will see from the above that my off-roading requirements were not mud-plugging. The main criteria were :-

1) The ability to not get stuck on muddy tracks,

2) Ditto on fields that were not too boggy, but I had to be able to traverse hilly fields etc.

3) Ideally to have a large sunroof so that my non-skinny ('comfortable') shooting partner could shoot rabbits and the odd fox out of through a 180 degree arc.

4) Ideally with as much plastic fascias etc as possible so that with a quick wipe down I could visit customers the following day after a nights lamping.

The Foresters were very good, and the low ratio box a decided asset. However, the decreasing number of agents was a worrying factor. Also the mpg (petrol) was relatively poor.

The Yeti ticked most of the boxes, and the one that I had was a 140 bhp Diesel. Fuel consumption averaged 47 - 50 mpg, although most of this was motorway work doing c.75 mph. The electronic 4 x 4 mode was very good, and I didn't get it stuck at all - though I do not take too many chances. Been there, and it is no fun ringing the keeper at midnight to drag you out off a muddy patch. The Plimsoll line up to the wheel arches is macho to boast about, but when you are 60 miles from home at midnight with work the following day, it can be somewhat stressful.

Anyway, the works Yeti has gone, with 106,000 on the clock and no major issues.

I have just retired, and have replaced it with a new one with almost exactly the same spec. I was very fortunate as the dealer had one in stock - normally there is a 3 month waiting list.

So, if anyone is considering one I can highly recommend.

Don
