Owenwill
Just in the process of applying for FAC, have filled in what I need to, it's just the question on referee form about my experience with firearms, how am I supposed to have had experiece with firearms if this is an application for a firearm? Are they just supposed to say about shotgun/air rifle experience? Decided to put in for .22 and 17hmr with moderators, spoke to local dealer this afternoon, he reckons N.Wales one of slowest forces to process certs so not holding breath! pin
You can have had experience in the forces, with cadets, down a shooting club etc. Not obvious, but it is possible

justme
Were can you find out the safety requirment for the land? I am positive I would get a ticket (have had lots & lots of previous firearms experiance) but not sure my land (28 acres) would pass the FAC test as its split by a road. Do they have diff levels of test dep on caliber? If so would I be better getting a FAC airgun or a .17HMR as i believe these have a much shorter safety zone? Dont realy want a shotgun. f.a.c.sam
When applying for your FAC the experience you put down doesn't necessarily have to be actually shooting a gun. Even If you have been in environments where guns are being shot and handled such as ranges or clubs or been out with a fellow shooter and observed and been around him it shows that you obviously have some previous knowledge about guns and safety and so on. To be honest they are not going to refuse you on the basis that you have no previous experience it's just better to put down any shooting related experience you have to give them a rough idea rather than leave it blank. Regardless your FEO will get a better picture of you as a person when he comes round for your interview to check gun safe etc. With regards to land safety requirements you can ring up your local firearms department and tell them the address of the land and they will be able to tell you whether it has beeen approved for certain calibres or not and if it hasn't once you send in you applicatation with that piece of land on, they will go out in person and check the land to make sure it is safe. However the bigger centrefire calibres obviously require alot more land as there range is so much further, however 22 rf, 17 hmr and fac air are much more likely to get approved. if you have any other questiosn regarding you application pm me as I have been through this same thing in the last year and rang the firearms department soo much with questions I am on first name terms
HXTOPDOG
Had a similar problem with my application, the guy from West yorshire came to the house and ticked all the boxes on security etc. but said he had a problem with my experiance using a firearm. His advice was to get a friend to write a letter stating that they have given you instruction and supervised you using the rifle and in their oppinion you are safe and competant. I did this and it only took six weeks from posting my forms to recieving my licence.
