Dimmer Switch.

I have been using these dimmer switches for a few years now, and have recently sourced a new supplier, and at a very cheap price. The usual price I paid in the past was around 5 pounds.

The dimmer works well with all 12V batteries/lamps and does'nt overheat. I have recently fitted one to my Lightforce 240 Blitz lamp. Although it's a little big, compared to inline dimmers, for the price, it's well worth the money. Delivery time from this supplier was approx 2 weeks.

i tryed one of these on my magnet,, yet when turned down it did slow it down,, but made the motor groan like hell ? !

It's making the moter work harder as there isn't as much current going to it.

Friggin cheap too, so nothing to lose. The only concern I would have is whether it would damage the motor if incorrect current or a page getting to the motor, or would the motor 'groan like hell' even with the proper speed controllers, such as them Magtames?

Bloody hell! Just looked up the price of these.....http://s366173542.e-shop.info/shop/article_1/MAGTAME-PRO.html?shop_param=cid%3D1%26aid%3D1%26

Does anyone have the dimensions of this please, weight would be useful as well, but ALL the dimensions would be great.

Many thanks!

:good::good: :good:

The dimensions are: 60mm(2 1/4") width x 90mm(3 3/4") length (inc base plate) x 35mm(1 1/4") depth. I cannot get the weight as it is too light for my scales, but would guess at 2 ounces (or less) approx

Sounds good to me and worth a look, especially if it is happy with the 100w lamp on a 240! :good:

I have used one on my 240 Blitz for a few years, but the dimmer was attached to the battery. I now have it 'inline'.

I also tried it on my magnet and the motor made a noise. But, I now have a 'proper' speed reducer on my magnet, and the motor makes a noise with that one too.

You can remove the back plate, as it's only used to secure the dimmer to something. Also, you can remove the circuit board from the casing, and, as long as it's protected, can be used without the casing. I'm thinking of trying this, and fitting the circuit board inside my 240 Blitz, as there is enough room behind the reflector.

It's sounding better and better, I'm about to place an order!

  • 1 month later...

Everything turned up, it took about a month to arrive but can't complain for the money.

I have stripped the Dimmer unit out......

and rewired my Max with the dimmer circuit completely contained,

post-20848-0-86506500-1370964012_thumb.jpg

Centre control is the Max beam adjuster, the rotary control to the right is the dimmer.

The two slot head electrical bolts visible hold the circuit board in place internally, perhaps a drop of black paint on them sometime.

Early trials are promising, and much neater and less wiring than before!

Cheers to steve_b_wales for the info! :good:

Edit

One lead out of the Max now direct to the battery (via fusing and connector at battery end as previously) , I had considered making a plug in lead to the max but not really happy with any of the small panel mounting plugs/sockets I found, this may happen at a later date!

I have modded a few LF with this dimmer. pull the green bit off and remove the PCB. put in smaller box.

Only problem i found was that with a 100 watt bulb the thing squealed so i changed bulb to a 75 watt. turned out to be a good move as i never used the lamp on full anyway.

you can fit one in the handle of a lightforce if your a little clever.

Perhaps I could have mentioned that, I removed the green 4 block connector from the PCB altogether and wired directly to the board, saved a lot of space! :good:

50 watt lamp in these so well rated! :good:

Time will tell now, but a hell of a saving on the Deben dimmer price, and much neater and tidier in my opinion.:yes:

75watt works just fine in them mate. mine was the best price as a friend gave me one if i would mod his lamp for him.
