Rooks eat a lot of invertebrates in the soil, leather jackets and wire worms and the like. The do eat cerials as well but on the whole they will go for invertebrates first. If the population is too big they will not find enough natural food and will eat crop seeds, the also poo everywhere.

Thanks Falcon, that's most helpful and will help me clarify with the farmer whether he really wants the rooks thinning as well, or just the crows :good:

That's a tidy bag, what were you shooting over?

SS

Absolutely nothing, honest. Myself and Jody went there last Sunday. Farmer had put some wheat/grain/someting down to keep the pigeons off other fields. There was nothing left on the field, others were shooting in the area. So I just bit the bullet and hoped my pattern brought them in.

Before any of you start on him again,

He did NOT say he was shooting over the grain the Farmer had put down to bait the birds away from the other fields.

Well done Martin

Get yourself down Aldenham Social Club on a Friday night and meet up with a few of the other shooters that get down there.

Top shooting there lad! first time out on your own is always a bit unnerving but looks like you didnt do to bad! :good: better than the first time i went out on my own  and stuff that other bloke getting all uppety! its people like that who put first-timers off the sport! keep on with the learning and you'll be identifying birds on the horizon with ease! after we all start somewhere with uncertain footing and not 100% sure if where doing the right thing, unless your lucky enough to have other guns around to teach you. if they are around look, listen and learn! keep it up!
