00buck
Hi what's the best loader 12 and 20g MEC or lee or others Speed best crimp easy to use? What do you all think
Guest cookoff013
all loaders do is put together components, no-one knows what you`ve loaded on what and when. there are poor recipes and great ones, all perform as good as the data not the reloader. i personally like mec reloaders. i have one and i had the previous model that i sold to a gentlemen on here. they are great bits of kit. i either handload or MEC. saddler
How do you crimp your 410's? If you use brass 410 cases there is no need to crimp or resize: just replace the primer & powder, add an over-powder card, add the shot & an overshot card, then seal the overshot card with water-glass or pva Edited April 27, 2013 by saddler
turbo33
I have a mec in 20g and a lee loadall 12. The mec is really a pain to set up, costs over 3 times as much but is better made. The Lee is mostly plastic, simple to use, £50 instead of £180, does everything. See my all threads in this section. If you want the cheapest solution, no hassle, plug and play go then a Lee. For an extra 40 odd quid get a spinner if you seek total perfection on your crimps. If you have an enquiring mind, love messing around with settings, want to spend endless hours seeking a better finish than the Lee+spinner and haved 3 times more to spend, then get a mec!! Speak to roughshooter on here. He has aload of Lees in at the moment. Whatever you decide, get some help and advice from on here on how to work it, you will save yourself a load of hassle. Guest cookoff013
the mec can be a pain to set up, but once its done, it is done ! once you learn how to do it, its easy. you can even strip the final crimp unit and set it up. i`m thinking about putting up a post to set up the final crimp unit, as lots of people are having tons of problems. it took a few duff loads to get good but hey thats life. i have had problems in the past, but what i researched is the mec final punch crimp unit has 2 plunger types, standard and the longer thread, 3mm more for that close to factory depth, upto 0.070", European cases are a different size so i can go for whatever size hulls. i`m a mec snob, i like high quality equiptment, why not? the lee cant do steel, the mec can, the mec can be specialised to do loads (skeet special #9shot). the mec can handle the extra 2%, that the lee cant. i paid 5x as much to do that. value for money the lee wins. horses and courses. turbo33
I agree with Cookoff. The mec is nice to use, more so than the Lee, and is great to use once it is set up. If you go Mec, ask one of the stalwarts on here for help. I think one of the reasons I had so much hassle was that I was kept waiting for it for a week, as Iwas lead to believe that it was being set up at by the shop. It wasn't, and I was fishing around in the dark while it ruined hull after hull. I had to find my own way with it plus I had to make some alterations to a factory part that shouldn't be neccesary. However, its working well now. Cookoff, a sticky on setting up, especially the 2nd stage on the crimper and maybe my findings with altering the crimp starter would be a big help....good idea Edited April 27, 2013 by turbo33

I'd be interested in seeing that as my crimps are a dogs dinner...look ok, but no deep "dishing" to them, the outer rim has the fold notches & the first ones I did were slightly nail-headed & were a pain to get to feed into the 870 pump... Guest cookoff013
mine was supposed to be set up from factory, but the fact was, it wasnt, everything was screwed to the tightest / highest setting, a friend of mine trashed his final crimp and he couldnt do anything, worked out he folded in the roller. just popped the pin, and re- attached. 2nd crimp was just lower than factory. my MEC sizemaster has some tweaks , i have the long crimp punch, and i have washers, to maintain and keep the right depth of precrimp. i`m about to start a run with some brand new hulls, now is as good as any. Floating Chamber
I have MECs, LeeLoadAlls, Texan and Dueffe presses.....and NONE of them have standard fittings. All of them share eachother's component parts. Sounds crazy, but I make the neatest shells, time after time! In fifty years, you'll know what I am talking about!
