Pompone
HI all, Yesterday I bought my first air rifle! A beautiful Falcon Prairie multishot, second hand but in mint condition and with a lots of goods! I'm planning to shoot some targets and, once I'll get good, some rabbits' heads, so I'm here to learn as much as possible about hunting and shooting. Most of all, I hope to meet people with whom to share the same interests :-)

Uncle Albert
See if you can find an HFT (Hunter Field Target) club near you and go and have a look. They are very friendly people and always ready to help. You generally need to be able to hit a Polo mint at 30 yds consistently before you go out after live prey. HFT is more like hunting than FT (Field Target) and you don't need all the pricy gear they seem to have. What's they point of being able to see a gnats back side if you can't hit it? I take it you have got yourself a divers bottle to fill it up. If you are relying on a pump then good luck to you. I don't want to have to wait hours for my heart beat to get back to normal before I go hunting. Having said that I now rabbit with a rimfire but I still have my AA S410. Brilliant gun but the little b####rs were getting a little too fly. You would do well to get an experienced hunter to take you out and show you the ropes. There's nowt more annoying in spending ages stalking to within shootable range and then muck it up by poor field craft. Best of all Have Fun!!! Rabbit casserole tastes far better if you have shot the bunnies yourself. Has HID agreed to cook them for you? Mine won't but then again she did burn the cornflakes for breakfast when we were first married. Her cooking ain't got any better so if I want to eat proper food I cook myself. She is happy with those ready meals from the supermarket. OK in an emergency but they forgot to put any flavour in them. I'm sure the nearest some of them got to real food is the picture on the box. Bet you'll soon start looking at shotguns and rimfires though. Sorry, forgot to say welcome to the forum. I indeed went to the Bisley Field Target Organization, they have some ranges with FT targets. They didn't have an adapter to fill my rifle but I had fun with their S400! Of course before going out to shoot some living creature I want to get a confident level of marksmanship. Be sure to hit a Polo at 30 yards looks like it. At the moment I'm not even near it so I'm not thinking to go out in the fields with a rifle. I'm up for a walk, if somebody want to take me with him, to see what's all about. Missus is not a problem as long as I present her with a fur-(or feather-)less ready-to-cook lump of meat. Then she'll be more than happy to cook and eat it! Rimfire and shotguns are somehow more "demanding", with the added layer of paperwork, security, and money. For the moment I'm settled with my air gun. PS no pump or bottle yet, I was looking for a second hand pump as I'm young and strong :-) but haven't found anything yet. And thank you all for the welcome!
