NathanM
This is more a hyperthetical question as I'm not sure I'm getting anything at all! But is a Daystate Airwolf significantly better than, say, an Airarms s410? They're double the price, bigger and heavier. I know they do look very nice, but what about performance? Are they any more accurate than an s420? Thanks in advance!
chrisjpainter
Yes. next question. haha, ok in a bit more detail! You get a heck of a lot of gun for the money with an S410 and there is a reason why it's the workhorse of the air rifle fraternity. Having said that, the Wolf is a huge leap forward. There are obvious surface advantages like huge shot capacity and a shrouded barrel but the big differences are under the hood. You don't get quite the same shot consistency with the S410. There's a noticeable power curve; the gun needs to bed down in a 'sweet spot' and outside of which the power gets a bit ropey, which in tern affects the accuracy of the gun. With the Air Wolf MCT, shot one should be the same as shot 300. The solution? keep the S410 in the sweet spot. you get a few more bells and whistles with an air wolf, like shot count, power settings etc, stuff that's useful, but not essential and only really goes to bumping up the price! Is a Wolf worth the money? Well, new it's over twice the price of the AA and I wouldn't say it's twice the gun. I bought mine second hand though. Even then it's still a lot more than a full kit, new S410, but I don't regret it for a second! I had an S510 for a while, which is a cracking shooter, and has the same stock as the 410, but in terms of comfort to shoot, I much prefer the Minelli thumbhole on the Wolf. It is extremely well balanced and doesn't feel that heavy in the field.
bullet boy
I agree with Chris above. I had a S410 and tbh loved it.It was very accurate indeed. I bit the bullet and PX it for a Air Ranger which I had my eye on after shooting my mate's Air Ranger. The Ranger is a mechanical version of the AirWolf and I gotta say what an incredible rifle. It's a case of you can have a Focus or want a Ferrari,if you want to put it like that-both will do the same job for you but the one is more luxurious! An AirWolf like Chris has said more shots per charge,a much much smoother cycling of the bolt as IMO the cycling of the S410 bolt needs getting used to using. Overall there's nothing wrong with the S410 as its a superb gun but if you want something that oozes that extra class to it then go for the AirWolf or an Air Ranger. The odds are the shooter is more likely to be the weaker link rather than the gun!

srspower
Depends on what you are using it for. I have a Air Arms s310 and it has an amazingly flat power curve and because I only use it to hunt shot count is not an issue and I always keep it in the sweet spot. So for me a airwolf only really makes sense as an FAC rifle as it means you could have 60 ft lbs in .25 calibre and still get a decent number of shots. If you are primarily hunting in 12 ft lbs then the daystate huntsman would be perfectly adequate or indeed the s410.
