Lord Geordie
As long as you don't go OVER the recommended cartirdge length you will be fine. Going for shorter is fine!

As Geordie says, it's perfectly safe to go downwards in size. Just don't expect much killing power from a 2" shell. A mate of mine baulks at the price of 3" shells but will happily kill pigeons with my 2 1/2" loads, whereas the 2" shells he has offer a very poor kill rate! Good luck. T.C. debaser
I use 2inch in my mossburg, both no. 9 and 6. Only use them for rodents though not rabbits or pigeon. I reckon 15 yards is the absoulte maximum with no. 6 but you could try a pettern plate. 9's pattern ok but at 15 yards loose there power. 2 inch carts are very quiet with hardly any recoil.
