Can I just add my thanks, only recently started shooting and I'm looking for a good reliable gun to start with and I reckon a s/h Beretta is just what I want, thanks for the info.

Good man. Prove to everyone you are not a gypsy and buy a second hand beretta, you won't regret it. :)

I've got a Beretta and a Lanber .. am I a bit gypsy in the mornings, and becoming a bit more cultured and house dwelling in the evening, or is it more the case that I'm definitely a touch bigotted around the ears of a lunchtime and pikeyfied of a night all down my left leg? One is confused. :) :(

My cert came through yesterday (Wahoo!!) and have also been looking at the lanber 30" m/c sporting at essex gun. I can really only spend around the £600 that the lanber costs as new and do like the idea of having a "brand new" gun. What I was told that if i was looking to spend £700+ then i would probably get a better 2nd hand gun, but the lanber is very good for the money. Only held a l/h so far as waiting for the r/h to come into stock, but it does feel good.....but so did the 682 that they had in stock too!!

Most shooters aren't snobs - certainly the ones who through one reason or another would be in a genuine position to lord it over us poor plebs tend not to do it because it actually doesn't bother them too much either.

Who really cares what gun you shoot, what clothes you wear or what accent you have? If someone's idiot enough to be bothered by this stuff you could give them a Purdey and wardrobe full of designer shooting clobber and they'd still be an idiot. :(

People can buy all the gear they like if it makes them feel validated. Have a wander round the local business parks this weekend to experience first hand the level to which society believes that what you buy and what you've got reflects who you are. No-one can buy manners, civility, an open mind and a healthy interest in the rest of the human race. :)

If anyone thinks their opinion of the make of gun I shoot allows them to get personal and assume things about me, so what? I buy the guns I like, I worry a bit about the price, a lot about the fit and condition, but I couldn't care less about the make. My advice- do the same.

This may be a silly question, but are shotguns brought and posted via the internet or is it on a 'collect only' basis?

I have often wondered if you try a gun that fits nice, and then find the model on the internet for a good price, how you go about making the purchase.

Sorry if it's been asked before.

;) sales / transfers have to be done 'face to face', and amendments / additions made by the seller to your shotgun cert at the time - so finding a good deal on the internet and having it sent to your home is a non-starter. You could have it sent to a local RFD but they'll likely charge for the honour of handling a gun they didn't sell you. Best thing to do is just get in the car, plan a trip round several RFD's and remember the credit card and your certificate. ;)

Don't forget to let your local police force know asap when you buy or sell a gun. ;)

Well, I've put a substantial deposit on the s/h Beretta. I tried it out at a local shooting ground Sunday morning - the gun seems fine, it's just the guy behind the trigger that needs some help now

I've seen a couple of nice looking guns for sale in places like Yorkshire, etc. But I don't think I'd tour Blighty to buy a gun!
