SamanthaDebra
We got a new kennel and run last week as we are going to start kennelling our springer and collie when we are out and when we stay out over night. I am concerned because even when we leave them out in it all day, they are holding in their toilet business until I let them out, it's as if they don't understand that it's okay to go to the toilet in the run. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am thinking that if I leave them long enough they will just have to go and then realise they aren't told off for it or something, but I feel cruel as don't want them to be miserably holding on for no good reason! THE AD
When they pee outside the run wipe up with a cloth then rub the cloth in the new run so it gives the smell off, should be ok after a few goes
JDog
Good dogs is what I say. Do you pee in your bedroom?
bigbird
Good dogs is what I say. Do you pee in your bedroom? IMHO you may be undoing their housetraining - they've been conditioned not to wee where they live so it'll probably worry them imensely the thought of doing it in the run, bless them. vampire
My german sheperd NEVER weed inside and only went to the loo on the very edge of the lawn, its what would have learnt from its mother and training,as has been said, rub some into the run or get another dog to wee in there and it will want to cover it ONCE it knows its there run. Andy135
Don't know if it helps, but our dog (not gundog breed) only likes to go on gravel/grassy surfaces. She won't wee on concrete. Is the floor of your dogs' run concrete screed? if so, maybe try putting down some wood chips/gravel or similar in one corner. See if that encourages them. Best of luck.
