Harnser
all gritting up on the side of the road ,this suggests to me that they are getting into the Barley . Most of the barley on my farms are at the milky stage and some of the fields have started to harden off . Keep an eye on your Barley , you could start to get some shooting . Harnser . TIGHTCHOKE
Surely they are the females getting grit to make egg shells!

Harnser
Surely they are the females getting grit to make egg shells! Pigeons like most birds need to ingest fine sharp grit to help digest the food that they eat . Unable to chew their food, they take in grit that then passes into the gizzard of the bird and grinds up the hard matter that they eat with a muscular action . Once ground up by the gizzard the food is passed through the birds digestive system .When eating grain pigeons will take on lots of grit . Harnser . TJ91
Plenty of pigeons on a patch of laid barley barley behind my place, unfortunately the farmer who owns the field wont let anyone shoot them

Thank you, I just presumed a female egg laying bird would need extra grit to provide the Calcium Carbonate that the egg shell is made from. TJ91
lets hope they eat the lot then. Haha, yeh! The fields surrounding my place are owned by 2 farmers...both dont allow any shooting on there land so it seems! It's pigeon paradise but no amount of begging and pleading has got me permission for even 1day. I just do my best on the flightline over the farm i can shoot that borders there fields
