Lead shot maker trial run

Recommended Posts

Just made my first batch of lead shot today it didn't work out to good really but its the first time so i need to learn some more.

there was allot of long tails and dimpled or misshaped shot.

not sure if i had the lead pan to high from the coolant.

or the wrong temperature on the lead pan but unless i had the temp up a bit the lead would not flow very well

and then it seemed to flow to quickly.

But i enjoyed the experience of making my first batch it was very interesting.

Cheers

Did you flux the lead properly and have you bought a maplin thermometer so you know what temperature you are running?

Mis shapen shot is usually because the ramp is too far from the coolant you want it less than 6mm. Dimples is because the lead is too hot or the coolant too thin which chills the lead too quickly. Tails are from the lead catching burrs ramp as it leaves, needs sanding. Unless it is very hot and very still working outside will suck the heat out of the pot and make it run poorly

You're lucky there's a ton of examples on youtube, we had to work it out for ourselves by trial and error.

Keep practising :good:

hi daz the tails are as sits say it is caching something on the ramp .

what did you use as a ramp lube.

you only need a small drop from the ramp 40mm is way to much. as the lead hits the coolant to hard and splats on the surface.

what angles did you set the unit at .

put some pics up of the set up and I will help the best I can .

ps have you still got my number .give me a ring and ill try to help..
