Gimlet
When I was 11 with an air rifle, an ASI Sniper, the most exciting Christmas present I ever had. By 13 I'd upgraded to an Original 45 which was a beast of a springer (wish I still had that, bit of a classic now). A 12 bore and rimfires followed and by 23 I was deer stalking with a Parker Hale .308. I somehow missed out on the .410 stage. I fancy getting one now for a spot of ratting. My two nephews, 11 and 13, are currently on their first air rifles and the youngest is keen to go stalking.

malkiserow
About 9 or 10 with a 9mm from my dad - the 9mm is a shotgun not the pistol! shot rats around the chicken coups 20bore is the obvious choice but go and get lessons ..... cannot remember his name but just south of Stratford is a famous coach who runs a school at the old airfield there - someone will know his name....... I'd also think about using a lightweight 12bore and light cartridges as this may save you money over 20bore cartridges but don't buy unitl you have tried many and with the lessons, You will then know what is best for you. Hi everyone thanks for your replies. This is really interesting and makes me want to start today lol I think I would have to start off at school maybe and take it from their. Any suggestions for the Coventry area? just remembered ..... http://www.carlbloxham.co.uk/Contact.html

Mike737
Started aged about 13 or 14, can't quite remember, at the school rifle club in Leeds. We used to go with the army to Carlton Barracks and shoot .22 rifles on the indoor range there. We also got taken by them to an outdoor range, where we shot all sorts of stuff, Sterling sub-machine guns, SLRs, 303s, Bren guns, pistols, shotguns etc. from time to time. Can't imagine that happening now!!! Got an air pistol and a Relum Telly .22 (still have it!) from Kays' Catalogue, mail order. Then when I was grown up started target handgun shooting, and did my own reloading - old wheel-weights from tyre fitting depots were great for melting and casting bullets. Had to give up the handguns after the ban obviously, and recently came to shotguns, and also bought a new air rifle, a Gamo Hunter IGT. That's more or less my shooting history in a nutshell. Mike. phaedra1106
Same as most, around 12/13 with an air pistol, then rifle upto my late teens. Then about 1976 I went along to an indoor shooting club and was hooked!, 6 months later and I paid a whole £249 to have a shiny new S&W model 29 .44magnum revolver delivered by Postman Pat (those were the days!), after that a really poor Armalite AR10 semi Auto rifle in 7.62mm followed by a Beretta 92F 9mm pistol and a Parker Hale .222 heavy barrel rifle (loved it!) and then got into clay pigeon shooting as well. Then in the late 80s Hungerford and the costs of having a new family to feed forced me to give it all up :( Good news though, after my wife walked out on us in 2006 I got back into clay pigeon along with my youngest son, now both shooting indoor gallery and long range target rifle, clay pigeon, just gotten into PSG and hopefully next week having a go at indoor practical rifle!. Kes
Started at 9 with a Heinel .177 air rifle, shot my first rabbit with a (very heavy ) 12 bore aged 11. Magic days, missed a few years trying to earn a crust but came back to it 20+ years ago and still keen but careful.
harry flashman
2003 on the rifle range at Sandhurst.... Other than that shot some clays on stag do's and got hooked from there. I'm not a natural shot at all and found lessons on clays really useful, if you do that you will no doubt get talking to people and things develop naturally I hope you enjoy it, it's a great sport with great people
