  1. 'The Transfers Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations will apply to any employees working on the property. There are currently 4 full time gamekeepers and 3 farm staff.' Not sure how that works, perhaps could be a headache, constructive dismissal to turn keepers into farm workers or something along those lines...
  2. actually it's not regressive for the less well off, you don't pay VAT on food, and given the poor spend more on food as a proportion of total spend than other groups, it works out better for them
  3. I think it depends on circumstances. I did Sandhurst and a three year short service commisson, left age 26 having made Captain (automaticly like most graduate entrants) about 5 mins before I left. For me to use 'Captain' some 8 years later would just make me look like a walt/fool. If one of the jocks in my platoon stays in, does umpteen tours, makes RSM, and then is commissioned and retires age 55 and wants call himself 'Captain' then i find it hard to see why he shouldn't.
  4. tax excessive use of punctution, especially '!' unless you are actually surprised or angry
  5. ex infantry officer, now investment banker
  6. I think he is ok in general, but pretty sure I saw him bow-fishing for carp in america in one episode, don't think that should be on TV
  7. agree, my shoot manages £26 a bird (just) but the land, a fair bit of labour and some other stuff goes in for free from the people involved. In in my opinion the people complaining should take their custom elsewhere and let other guns take the places, in your part of the world I would imagine there are plenty of folk who have the means but not the access
  8. welcome, same here, stuck in city in week but get to Lincolnshire for my shooting at weekends
  9. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Paget_Flashman The Ultimate Anti-Hero very funny books, well worth a read if you have not done so before
  10. I thought I read somewhere that shotgun ownership is at an all time high? as for newcomers I was rough shooting on boxing day and was the oldest gun at 33, on saturday the lad on the peg next to me was 13 I really dont think as bad as you suggest, and they would have thier work cut out with fishing, not only the most popular sport in the UK but also very spread across 'class'. Not really a vote winner for the politicians (unlike foxhunting), I would guess most people in the UK would have a relative or friend who fishes in some way or other.
  11. you are right that does sound a bit odd, a point is nothing, its done about 40 points higher since coffee time and that is only 0.6%
  12. % change is just the amount it has changed divided by the original amount x100 so in this case (6553.1-5526.72)/5526.72x100= 18.57 I dont think any other way to calculate it
  13. Had a fairly epic rib eye at Cut at 45 park lane last Friday, maybe best steak in London. Verashwamy on regent street is great top end curry (I think they have a Michelin star). Texture is great if you like the more fining dining white table cloth stuff. I do quite a lot of client entertaining in London
  14. I was at school, stayed until after a levels, did a year in the city, Uni for 3 years, 4 years in army, now back in the city Proper institutionalised!
  15. In economic terms they are both inflation as you suggest. House price rises tend to be correlated with growth hence the association with recovery - for journalists at least. There are also a lot of very poor quality assets linked to house prices on banks balance sheets which stops them lending. In theory if house prices rally, the assets are worth more, bank balance sheets look better, and so they lend more. More bank credit leads to more growth.
  16. 2003 on the rifle range at Sandhurst.... Other than that shot some clays on stag do's and got hooked from there. I'm not a natural shot at all and found lessons on clays really useful, if you do that you will no doubt get talking to people and things develop naturally I hope you enjoy it, it's a great sport with great people
  17. It's fine if you want to stay in your resort, outside there is little to see and you just get hassled by the locals trying to sell you tat. Don't eat fish or seafood and do take immodium Overall I say is good value for the sort of money you pay but it's cheaper than other places for a reason
  18. Currency Broker ex Army Officer
  19. I've read all the books. If the series follow then they will certainly keep the momentum going. breaking bad is brilliant too although completely different, its quite hard to compare
  20. Shouldn't the marines one finish 'go on the lash in a dress to celebrate'. I'm serious, I have utmost respect for the marines but they seem to have a strange penchant for dressing in drag And I think the correct phrase for 'curse bitterly' is actually 'schimpfing' It was in the royal regiment of Scotland anyway. 'boss, don't worry about it, if the jocks stop schimpfing you know there is a problem'
  21. I have a pretty much open offer of a job in Singapore, which does appeal; low tax, climate, travel, decent law and order. But I know I would miss the uk too much, friends, family, and all the little things you don't appreciate when you are here. Spent a few years abroad with the army and know what it is like
  22. the muscle reacts the resistance it is getting, not the weight you are lifting ie better to lift a lighter weight with better form
  23. I think everyone I know is quite happy to have a little whinge about their job every now and then, the farmers I know are no worse that anyone else, it just human nature. Telling people that you are minted is a lot worse.
