I visited Krakow for one day whilst working in Poland about 10 years ago. Its a beutiful historic city. Make sure thay you see the trumpet played at the tower, and visit the Jewish quarter. If your into churches etc, there are over 100 to go at. We were fortunate in having an English speaking guide take us on a tour. I would recommend that you do the same. We were there in december, it was bloody cold, eventhough I thought that I had gone well prepared.

The Polish people are very honest, trustworthy and hardworking people.

P1000007.jpgWas there in july (Kracow) bloody hot it was, flew from newcastle with easy jet 9 quid out 19 back?

bargain!! big time stayed in the old jewish quarter of Kazimerz (spelling) 20 mins walk at most into the main market square area, plenty to do and see including auswitch a must see? very pleased I went did not really fancy it but the main reason for the trip was to take the wife there, and I am glad I went a real eye opener and very thought provoking, then ther is the black madona worth seeing if you want the hairs to stand on the back of your neck, strange starnge thing another must, then the saltmines etc, all well worth the day out poles are very friendly all seeminglyspeak english and eating and drinking was not to expensive, one of the few places I have been to that I intend to go back to, never saw any trouble (apparently crime in kracow has reduced a lot seems the dips are all over here dipping for tenners rather than a few Zloties)

well worth the trip go for it

ooh by the way auswitch or aushwitz depends how you want to spell it! is about 80 kilometers from Kracow

best done by rail, easy from the central station or by bus (stop is near rail station a short walk from the market) DO NOT go with the tour companies such as kracow tours as you WILL be rushed round, and over charged much better to do your own thing and spend a FULL day at auswich and birkenau (were the cremetoria were and the camps and watch tower plus the rail reception / processing area still are)

Entry to the camps is free so you only have to cost transport which is negligable, also taxi from the airport to the town center is about a tenner BUT if (knowing your a yorkie) you want to save a few bob buses go from the steps at the airport entrance to the town every 15mins and cost 50p and its a better journey taxi drivers are mad.

cheers Keith
