Chr15j
Ok, so I have a .22lr on an open ticket and have had a licence about 8 yrs. I just put in to Cambs for a variation for a .243 for fox and deer (I have the suitable land perm for this) and I've been told that without a dsc or having been out with someone 1/2 dozen times who is willing to sign me off as competent I have no chance! So, is there anyone in Cambridge area who is able to let me come out with them a few times so I can get my .243? Big ask I know but there's nothing else I can do! Thanks, Chr15j Edited August 8, 2013 by Chr15j
al4x
or just do DSC1 over a weekend, its worth it in the long run as you do learn a lot
Chr15j
Problem is getting to some remote location to do this. Having 3 children limits my ability to go off grid chasing deer for a weekend
Jesse James
Bloody Kids arghhhhh. why not offer to have a shooting buddy or mentor as such on your land. you may find that by offering the shooting on your permission may get better chance of offers bud. al4x
you don't chase deer on DSC1 its class based mostly and not necessarily remote areas.

theosmith
Buy some ammo for my 243 and ill take you out and let you have a go shoot some fox
al4x
The issue is you need someone with a .243 to let you come out and shoot deer, provide the rifle and the deer its not a simple one for free. The best way if you won't do DSC1 is to do some paid stalks with someone locally and go down that route and it is a good route to go down as you will get experience and learn a lot from the right people. hawkeye
I've been told that without a dsc or having been out with someone 1/2 dozen times who is willing to sign me off as competent I have no chance! there is nothing in the guide lines that say you have to have dsc1or a mentor to own a 243.. Like most forces now a days they are making the rules up to suit themselves The issue is you need someone with a .243 to let you come out and shoot deer, provide the rifle and the deer its not a simple one for free. The best way if you won't do DSC1 is to do some paid stalks with someone locally and go down that route and it is a good route to go down as you will get experience and learn a lot from the right people. WHY You should not have to do this big brother again..

Message me prior to a weekend and well go foxing......crops will be cut very soon so lots about You should be able to acquire a rifle prior to mentoring tho just will have restrictions

Chr15j
Ring basc budDon't think it will get me anywhere, chief firearms officer said without dsc or experience I have no chance as I can't demonstrate competence and quoted some section from the Act. Not worth getting on the wrong side if him as I shoot over his brothers land! Of course , what goes round comes round.
