Darno
Using water and milky in oil! Won't be taking it to vw! No way I could afford that!

fruity
The best way imho to use a good local garage , rather than pay vag prices
toby12
make sure they do a head skim, you will be looking at about 650 from a decent indie.
team tractor
It's the water pump 100% I'm a vw fanatic and at 60-80k the water pumps go . It leaks into the oil which makes you think head gasket £250 at vw on t5's as 7l of oil in them .

team tractor
All 3 transporters I've owned from new had it at 60k . Take it vw and get it checked properly as the independent garage I used in the past said head gasket but vw knew in minutes the water pump . It is common and well worth checking. I don't know about 100% though Never had any head problems with my vw's so pretty confident. 99% is that better lol

fruity
I could be several things darno and hopefully it will be the cheapest for you , best thing to do is drop it into a trusted experienced garage and get them to give you there opinion and go from there

Asa Bear
I have the VAG 2.0 TDi engine in a 2007 Audi A4. First sign of problems I had was juddering idle. Then red oil light came on whilst driving due to oil pump seizing. I was lucky it only knackered the turbo not the whole engine. It's a very common fault on this engine apparently that Audi deny but won't sell you a replacement pump. The new "modified" pump costs £1300 from VAG!! Take it to a good independent ASAP. brett1985
the oil pump siezing isnt a common problem, but he drive shaft in the balance shaft assembly failing is... this will be the problem that youre refering to. audi do recognise that in some cases there seems to be a issue of this happening, hence the reason they have produced a modified balance shaft assembly that is spur gear driven, rather than chain driven. it hasnt happened to all of the 2.0tdi engines though... only some. if the vehicle is under a certain age, mileage and has a full dealer service history then you may well be available to 'goodwill', but that is down to audi's discretion subject to the afformantioned criteria. hope this helps. Yes it was failure of the balance shaft assembly inside the oil pump which caused it to stop working suddenly. "Accountant engineering" according to the Audi technician. Audi weren't interested at all in my car which coincidentally had a full VAG SH but was out of warranty. **** engine! Sorry OP I hope you get your problem sorted for not too much money. sle
My T5 Had head gasket fail at 90k was told by VW it was water pump then charged £350 for new water pump and then told it was head, this was after it had a new intercooler and radiator at a cost of £800 from VW. Then £750 to have head repaired Then the glow plugs stopped working which ended up needing a new wiring loom after VW changed plugs and relay. Now the injectors are failing. Never none such poor quality in a vehicle and i have had some rubbish before. VW dealers have real attitude problem now. They built a good rep and now starting to destroy it. i would rather have a horse and cart than ever own another vw.

Don't get me wrong I'm annoyed about bits but overall their brilliant . My last van was the same price as a transit ( 14k +vat ) but at 8 years old when I rolled it I got 8k out the insurance:) but an 04 transit is worth 3k ?
