All 3 transporters I've owned from new had it at 60k . Take it vw and get it checked properly as the independent garage I used in the past said head gasket but vw knew in minutes the water pump .

It is common and well worth checking. I don't know about 100% though

Never had any head problems with my vw's so pretty confident.

99% is that better lol :)

Just my opinion of course but I think you have been very lucky so far with your vw,s then

My nephew runs a independent vw garage and a good percentage of his work is head related on slightly older models

It's a 2007 model 2.0 tdi it's got a slightly lumpy idle, would the water pump cause this?

All from new .

2 fox

1 caddy pick up

1 caddy van

2 t4 transporters

1 t5 2.5 owned 8 years until wrote off

1 current t5 140 kombi

I've covered 80k in most of them but all my transporters seem to knacker water pumps at 55-60 k :(

Maybe I've been lucky ? But wouldn't own anything else

I Myself have always had vw,s cars and vans , my new gtd golf is probably the nicest one out the lot so far, all I was trying to say is that you have been lucky as some of the older models do suffer from heads :)

I have the VAG 2.0 TDi engine in a 2007 Audi A4. First sign of problems I had was juddering idle. :/

Then red oil light came on whilst driving due to oil pump seizing. I was lucky it only knackered the turbo not the whole engine. It's a very common fault on this engine apparently that Audi deny but won't sell you a replacement pump. The new "modified" pump costs £1300 from VAG!!

Take it to a good independent ASAP. :good:

the oil pump siezing isnt a common problem, but he drive shaft in the balance shaft assembly failing is...

this will be the problem that youre refering to.

audi do recognise that in some cases there seems to be a issue of this happening, hence the reason they have produced a modified balance shaft assembly that is spur gear driven, rather than chain driven.

it hasnt happened to all of the 2.0tdi engines though... only some.

if the vehicle is under a certain age, mileage and has a full dealer service history then you may well be available to 'goodwill', but that is down to audi's discretion subject to the afformantioned criteria.

hope this helps.

Yes it was failure of the balance shaft assembly inside the oil pump which caused it to stop working suddenly. "Accountant engineering" according to the Audi technician.

Audi weren't interested at all in my car which coincidentally had a full VAG SH but was out of warranty. **** engine!

Sorry OP I hope you get your problem sorted for not too much money.

My T5 Had head gasket fail at 90k was told by VW it was water pump then charged £350 for new water pump and then told it was head, this was after it had a new intercooler and radiator at a cost of £800 from VW. Then £750 to have head repaired Then the glow plugs stopped working which ended up needing a new wiring loom after VW changed plugs and relay. Now the injectors are failing. Never none such poor quality in a vehicle and i have had some rubbish before. VW dealers have real attitude problem now. They built a good rep and now starting to destroy it. i would rather have a horse and cart than ever own another vw.

Your just unlucky. Join the t5 forum and its full of happy people . Don't get me wrong I'm annoyed about bits but overall their brilliant .

My last van was the same price as a transit ( 14k +vat ) but at 8 years old when I rolled it I got 8k out the insurance:) but an 04 transit is worth 3k ?
