Hushpower, which gauge ?

I am buying a pump action Hushpower, as I am having to be increasingly noise conscious around farm buildings and houses.

It will be used for shooting rooks and pigeons and I am debating now whether its a 20gauge, or 12 gauge.

Looking at the price of subsonic cartridges there seems to be about £40 difference per 1000, with 20 gauge being more expensive, but I also understand that you can use standard 20 gauge cartridges without there being much of an increase in sound.

The 20 gauge is apparently lighter in weight (which suits me) , but I have also heard that you get better results with a 32gm load , which is not available in 20 gauge.

There are probably loads of other pros and cons I haven't even thought of.

Any recommendations from Hushpower users please ?

Ive got the 20g investarm o/u , hushpower, cant rate it high enough, such a good gun. Ive had the 12g mossberg, but prefer the 20g. Ive used Gamebore 30g 5 hushpowers, which are ok, but the Gamebore traditional game in 6's or 5's are just as quiet and are a hell of alot cheaper. one thing i did to improve it was change the front bead to a smaller one, and it helps with the 'shooting low' issue that hushpowers have.

Slightly off topic, but I have both single barrel Baikal and Mossberg pump in 410 Hushpower. Because of the size of moderator, my Baikal is noticeably much quieter than the pump.

Therefore if noise is the biggest driver for your purchase you might want to try both types if you can and the O/U suggestions might be better for you.

i`d just go 12, reloading for these is very easy (not that 20gauge is difficult)

but i canuse 42g, 36g 32g,28g subsonics. so opensup the possability of BBs #2 and #4 shot.
