I would like to take to next step with clay shooting, happy to start from the bottom and work my way up. Basically I used to race motocross and super cross at a high level traveling around the country and abroad, almost had a career out of antil some stuff went wrong....... Basically I feel like I'm missing something, a reason to pack up the car and I want to pursue somthing, push to be better etc and think clay shooting is the thing that I want to chase. But cant find to much on the Internet and wondered if any on here could help or does it? Is it hard to get into or easy? I have lots of questions etc

Thought you helpfull bunch would help me on my way!

Hi reeceknight I've been doing clays for about 18 months now ,in my little time in using a shotgun my experience ,is that to become very good at this sport takes time , it doesn't matter how much money you throw at it or as many different types of gadgets or gizmos you get , it takes time , practise and patience :)

You'll have good days and bad days shooting , mine is the more bad days  safe shooting pal :)

Hi Reeceknight,

I was shooting on the same squad as Tracey last bank holiday and can assure you that you will be in 'good hands'.In my experience once you have a consistent mount/correct gunfit sorted you then need to decide on which style you're going to use and then stick to it for the foreseeable future. Once you have climbed up a couple of classes then incorporate the various styles to suit specific targets. I would suggest that you shoot 'gundown' as soon as possible too as this is particularly suited to your chosen discipline (except 'trap' type targets maybe). Then you need to travel to as many grounds as possible to encounter as many different target presentations as poss in order to become a versatile/capable competitor.

In time who knows where you will end up, county, national or GB team?

I shoot competitively every week mate, plus maybe 100 clays practise midweek if I can fit it in.

I think if you start quantifying your expenditure then it ain't for you, as it isn't cheap and you have to travel. Get shooting competition as soon as possible as you cant replicate it in practise, travel to as many grounds as possible and above everything.......ENJOY IT! You're going to have many, many more lows as opposed to highs (especially shooting sporting).Get some lessons rather than learn/reinforce bad habits which may compound your progress.

You can get up there with the best of them if you put the effort in. I haven't been shooting all that long and made it as county captain, have shot as a club international and missed out on a full international place by 1 clay this year (was reserve).

Like the guys said CPSA membership (in England) is a must to shoot reg comps. You never know you may have a natural talent for your chosen discipline and it will be a easier.

You could be the next Digweed/Faulds/Chaplow/Wilson?

All the best!
