aister
That sounds about right, we had a meeting the other week with the farmers about the geese and it was agreed that the local fowlers would do the best we could in the season and that we would work together and help each other out to try and avoid an open season cull. That's the best thing that could happen aister might be a good idea if you sort your self a Shetland Wildfowling club out before you get all the problems that Orkney shooters have had to put up with . Good luck Carl
Pole Star
Well said! As I say over and over on here nobody ever has a go at the bloke who shoots 100+ pigeons! Oh and I use a 3 shot pogo stick and I limit the number of birds I shoot. Now thats what I like to hear limit things accordingly . Pole Star
How about adopting the BASC limits for geese, but add in unlimited for Canadas as they are getting to be a plague. Never saw many here in central Scotland 20 years ago, now we have more and more every year. Mallard are declining so a limit of perhaps 2 per flight? Here is a point some will of course disagree with Henry ? a retired farmer at the other end of the loch from me has told me that 20years ago where the geese are nesting in the heather on his farm it was all mallard nesting there but the geese have moved in & the ducks moved out he also said the grouse no longer nest there either . If geese are increasing every where is that perhaps some of the reason for declining mallard numbers ? perhaps anser2 can shed some light on this ?
