margun
I shot a goose the other evening but didn't have time to pluck and draw it straight away. I don't like the idea of hanging anything in this heat so just wrapped it in a carrier bag and froze it as is. Apart from the lengthy thaw time (they're wearing a duvet after all!), is it OK to do this? It was hit in the head and neck so don't expect the guts or digestive tract to be damaged - hoping the meat won't be ruined. superspark
I for one wouldn't freeze it with the guts still in it, not if you want to eat it. All my birds from duck, pigeon, pheasant etc are all de breasted first. the only birds frozen whole will be decoy birds for my next shoot. There is absolutely nothing wrong with freezing animals with the guts in.

Most game dealers will accept pigeon ,rabbits etc frozen in the feather with guts in , so I guess they are considered perfectly safe for human consumption. margun
Thanks for the responses gents - I'm re-assured. I guess that the guts could be a problem if the bird was hit hard and had ruptured intestines, I'm pretty sure this hasn't happened. Will report back when it's defrosted and eaten!
