OK so just booked for me and the missus to go to vegas... need some advice, staying at the Tropicana, not the best hotel but pretty central on the strip.

Things I/we want to do: Advice on all appreciated!

1: Brunch we arrive on a Saturday so will be there for Sunday! Where to go, do you need to book?

2: Shooting range don't want a silly hen/stag range but a decent one where i can try some full bore pistol and other exotic things. For reasonable price

3: Car hire we fancy driving to the Hoover dam and possibly the Grand canyon west, Fancy a Mustang or similar for a day seen a sebring/chrysler for £45 for a day or mustang for £70 booking online before we go. was thinking of just the one day car hire.

4: Not into gambling what else is really worthwhile? Want to see Fountains at Bellagio

5: Want to do some shopping was thinking Basspro shop but where else? FOr general and outdoors stuff.

6: Whats is really worth buying and bringing back I want to get a leatherman (I dont reload so bullet heads etc of no use)

7: Decent shows and entertainment venues and worth booking in advance or buying once we arrive?

Got married in Vegas in 2000.. stayed at the Flamingo Hilton and got married in the gardens.. was fabulous, anything but cheesy and one of the best days of my life..

Plenty of food in Vegas, you won't need to book.. you can't go without having breakfast or brunch in Cesars Palace.. All you can eat buffet... the blueberry muffins are the size of a babys head and taste lovely.. the rest of the grub is just as good

2: Shooting range don't want a silly hen/stag range but a decent one where i can try some full bore pistol and other exotic things. For reasonable price

Cant help you with that one.. didn't fancy getting divorced at the same time as getting married!

We drove from San Francisco to Vegas.. took 30 hours.. forget convertibles.. you want the windows up and the A/C on full... you are in a desert.. do not act like a brit! you will burn and dehydrate VERY quickly, just be sensible Don't be fooled by the scale of things... the canyon is a good half a day plus drive away! Get on a plane and fly there, that will take you over hoover dam and you will get much better views.. Vegas airport is at the bottom end of the strip IIRC but the tour company will come and pick you up at your hotel... Personally I wouldn't drive after being there and doing it!

4: Not into gambling what else is really worthwhile? Want to see Fountains at Bellagio

Everything is worthwhile in Vegas... Fremont Street at night is a must, ride the rollercoaster on the top of the strat, the underground shopping mall at Cezars is awesome, the fountains are cool, the volcano and pirate ships on the strip are amazing The venetian is amazing.. I could go on and on and on and on... you won't be short on things to do trust me...

5: Want to do some shopping was thinking Basspro shop but where else? FOr general and outdoors stuff.

You will get lost in Bass Pro.... you won't want anywhere else! lol

6: Whats is really worth buying and bringing back I want to get a leatherman (I dont reload so bullet heads etc of no use)

Leathermans are silly cheap in Bass Pro.. when we were there the wave I had bought for £100 was $30!!!! I hope its the same!

7: Decent shows and entertainment venues and worth booking in advance or buying once we arrive?

You may struggle to get tickets for the most popular, they are sold out months, sometimes years in advance.. we wanted to see FX with Michael Crawford... not a chance!!! start looking and booking NOW!

Above all,... have fun you lucky *********

I have been to Vegas quite a few times over the last 10 years it's a great play ground couple of places that are a bit different for a trip out for the day try Gold Point it's a real western ghost town just a few residents well of the beaten track it's how the west was 100 + years ago, then come back via Area 51

Plenty of bucket shops on the strip to buy lower price show tickets you can get in line from around 10am, just watch where you are late on it can get a bit lively especially around Fremont St, Vegas gets very busy from Thursday through fri & sat as peeps fly in.

Try the cheesecake factory that was good for food

I have stayed at thre Tropicana a few times, but this was before the Hilton Group took it on, and I gather they have renovated it.

Should be fine to stay in but I have no idea at all how any food there might be.

Within yards there is Smith & Wollensky's steak house which is one of my faves. Across the street is the New York New York in which the Italian restaurant is pretty good, as is the Irish Pub (Nine Fine Men I think) and I hear the steak house in there is good too.

On Tropicana itself is a bar I sometimes go to with the guys after work (my visits have all been work related) called Bj's... yeah I know! Kinda cute/scanty girls serving the usual drinks and bar food.

I have been many times to Veags, so have ended up making local friends.

I actually never bothered shooting at the Las Vegas Gun Store. It just looked a bit shabby to me, but I was lucky enough that a friend told me of American Shooter and took me there with a few of his own guns. I did not have to pay for anything, even though I tried to pay for the ammo and range hire. I got him back though by cooking dinner for about 12 people!

American Shooter is a slick looking operation, and they do have a number of guns to hire.

Bass Pro is huge as all have stated, I have even shot in the two lane range behind the gun counter there but they do not rent anything out.

Red Rock & Valley of Fire for hiking, plus everything the other guys have stated is all valid.

Also on a side note, I went to "the art of shaving" and had a cut throat shave, it took about 40mins and was great so great I fell asleep and the shave was awesome. I bought some of there stuff and am happy with it back here when I use it also :D

Go on treat yourself.

Infact if anyone going is prepared to pick me up a new bottle of there shaving oil while there it would be very much appreciated and of cause am happy to pay up front.

Been on fly drive to states and stoped at Vegas for a couple of nights, booked in Motel. dead cheap as no big stars on the strip. Heli tour with Papillon was fantastic, flew over Hoover dam. Landed in the bottom of grand canyon for chapaigne breakfast, only heli company that has permission to land in indian reservation at bottom of canyon.

If you like steaks then the 'Connoisseurs Steak' (sirlion) in the Monty Carlo Casino Restaurant is reputed to be the best on the strip.

Have a good trip.

love vegas we gt married there almost 8 years ago we went back for our 6th aniversary :)

we have stayed in the Golden Nugget the first time we went there and it was great on freemont st but spent a lot in cabs going to and from the strip (then found out about buses which are very cheap) the second time we stayed in a corner suite at the Luxor which was great. went to the gunstore las vegas and had a great mornign there scared the hell out of the wife who is now gun shy!!! (ooops)

went to the bass pro shop and got dragged out by the mrs after 5 hours "browsing" lol ;) (why is this fine when she is looking for clothes/shoes)

we took a fixed wing flight over the canyon on our aniversary which was nice if not a lil bit bumpy (lots of thermals)

cant wait to go back some time soon :)
