Theskyfox
Hi All, Just wanted to ask really, all those out there with FAC airguns, how easy/difficult is it to get an FAC for an air rifle? Sorry if this has been done before. Basically I've got two farms I shoot over..one is large and currently doesn't allow FAC airguns. The other is small, but I know for a fact another person has been there before using a .22 rimfire to sort out the foxes (though he may have had a Open ticket for this). At the moment I only have <12ftlbs rifles, but figured itd be nice really to have something with a bit more range on it without going into fullblown centrefire/rimfire. One person I spoke to before suggested that its not easy, and I'd be better off getting a shotgun cert first...but in honesty I'm not particuarly interested in shotguns at the moment and don't want that expense. Would I need to join a club too? and is one bit of land enough or would I need to get more? Both are options I can persue, but I'm just trying to get a feeler for prerequisites really. Cheers -Andrew
peek-at
A phone call to your firearms department will reveal if your permissions are already 'authorised' by them for use with a particular firearm ie if they have already been visited and assessed as fit for FAC air/22LR/HMR etc... If a permission has not been assessed you can request that they do that and get back to you prior to making a FAC applicaion. It may take a while. It is no more easy/dificult getting FAC for air than it is for rimfire etc.......If it turns out that your permissions are authorised for use of FAC air, 22LR and 17 HMR make an application for those too at the same time. This means that you have slots on your ticket should you decide that your want/need one over the next five years, without paying additional variation fees. thepasty
Acquiring a FAC is a simple but can be lengthy process, if you have good reason (pest control), suitable land and you have nothing negative in your personal history you wont have any problems getting one. Theskyfox
Thanks for the advice guys. I'll keep you posted. I'm waiting to get a new permission at the moment (which will take it up to three!) and I'd like to get settled there before I decide to take the plunge and apply. I take it a club isn't required? I had a look last night and really struggled to find any shooting clubs that actually let you use FAC airguns. Its a bit of a pain because its always nice to have a place that you can sit and shoot at targets to practice your aim. -Andrew
Zx12rash
If you do get an FAC air rifle you will be able tovzero the rifle at one of your cleared permissions. I haven't found an air range that will take FAC yet. Small bore rifle clubs don't seem to either. Good luck with it just make a good trap for zeroing at your permission
