Funnily enough I work on Newcastle gay scene. The two bars that were filmed were the only 2 bars that aren't owned by the same company, although the same security firm had the contract for both doors but have now gone on to lose the contract at Eazy Street following the filming of that program! I work in house for the company that owns 85% of the gay scene and regardless of what people think its not an easy job! I've done the doors for nearly 8 years now and I've worked easier doors in the Bigg Market! I pride myself on being able to diffuse a situation by talking to people but sometimes people won't listen and it has to get physical. I don't enjoy the work but its a quick way of getting money as a second job!

I woked at Coco V when it first opened for a couple of years, think its called The Town Walls now? Pretty boring place to work tbh, Shields was a lot "livelier" stopped when the SIA was introduced .

Yes Dan, i had 9 years there in pubs and clubs fom 91-2000, happy days!

My whole family have done the doors over close to 40 years and now my lad heading that way. I know the changes I saw over the 20 years that I did it and my Father said it was a different game when he started.when I went to it first it was myself, Dah,, 3 uncles and 4 cousins all in the same Nightclub,talk about hit one hit us all attitude I loved it and lived for it. Times change though and over the years I grew to hate it.A lot of hoops to go through now to get in and very tightly regulated. Tried to talk young lad out of it, but then my Father tried the same with me.

Did the doors for 10 years in Portsmouth , Packed it in when the SIA came in and started throwing their weight around (Just like I said they would)

 

Was good while it lasted , But glad to be out of the game now , And looking at the doormen now working in Portsmouth , Im pretty sure I did the right thing .
