A recent leatherwork project

Not made one of these for a while....mainly as they require deep pockets to allow you to be the happy new owner

Thought I'd post a few pics though so you can see the level of detail required

The project item is a Gannochy. These were originally designed about 110 years ago as a means to not just carry cartridges that were ready to hand, but carry them in such as way that you ALWAYS grabbed them by the rim/base for quicker reloads.

Originals used metal busbar type frames and metal clips (made by a famous pen company)...my modern incarnation has a lightweight frame and Prodec clips, uses top quality English solid brass fittings, English bridle leather, is edge dyed/burnished & is totally hand-sewn at 9 stitches to the inch. It's on a par with the gear I used to make for Purdey, Holland & Holland & a few of the other London trade. Lets just say it took a while to make!!

Nice workmanship, what weight leather did you use?

The leather was 3-3.5mm Sedgewick Bridle Butt.

Measuring leather by weight is more of an American thing

That is an object of beauty

Top skills there

Thanks for your comments

The chap it was made for had one thing to say, "WOW", so he's happy with it
