saddler
VAUX may be French Then again I grew up in a town that had a brewery of that name!! If I find out any more data I will let you know
Highbird70
Dear Sirs, Its definitely not a French gun, especially when you can see from the photos, that as been sent to me, that the barrels have been proofed in London. The 1 1/4 its the maximum load that you are allowed to use, that means 36gr. max load Edited September 17, 2013 by Highbird70

Lol I am trying to find the maker, I need to get hold of a book published in 1998, where most of the British gunmakers were listed
Highbird70
On your side by side, there are 2 symbols, that should help solve the mystery. The first symbol , its the one below the V crown mark, the second symbols are on the barrels, if you look at the chambers, there is something like a flower or crown on both barrels, I need a better photo of those and one of the other mark
Highbird70
Value wise: unfortunally not knowing the gun maker name, will definitely, place your gun (depending on overall condition) in the £100-250 price market. Atb Mark
wymberley
Is there anything to say that it was not UK proofed after importation?
Highbird70
Is there anything to say that it was not UK proofed after importation? That's what I thought at first, but then, there is to many British marks, there is the black powder mark and the nitro proofed mark, plus the 12ga mark, I think this one is a UK gun by birth. What I found interesting its, that there is no Gun maker named Vaux, popping up on the internet, but I have found something else, that might be related, follow the link: http://www.hunting-directory.co.uk/directory/Eton_College_Beagles.htm There is a J. C. Vaux in that list, he was a Huntsman Master 1951-1952, I wonder if he had the gun engraved with his name on the boxlock....gents its just a theory of mine
Gunman
Looks like an English made[birmingham ] non ejector with pre 1925 proof marks , so it was made between 1904 and 1925 . As the bore sizes stamped are 14 over 1 and 13 [.701" & .710" ]I would get it checked for proof before you even think of offering it for sale . I have no listings of a Vaux in my books so it could have been retailed a local ironmonger for instance . As to value with out inspection it is not possible to say but it will not be very much .
