dhumble5
Can you get it or not ? I am thinking of getting my self a cheap 4x4 for weekend shooting as my merc is unsuitable for the farm but don't like the idea of paying full insurance for a second motor just to use at weekends. Is there such a thing as weekend insurance ? ( I suppose nearly every one would like it )
Rupert
Temporary insurance does exist but they take the mickey with the rates,i bet it will be cheaper to have an annual policy, then you have all the sorn carry on for when its dormant. malkiserow
Now you cannot have a vehicle taxed and not insured even if off the road or in a garage. You can have it insured but no tax .... but not on the public highway.
mickyh
We just insured our Daughter who is up from Uni. Full weekend including Admin Fee £25 Admin Fee was £18 ! She is only 19, to drive my wifes Micra-Very cheap in my book. However you can only get one month of this, split or as a block every 12 months. Thats with my wifes insurance (Churchill I think). Hope this helps.
superspark
you have two choices depending on how many times you want to shoot in a year. firstly you could just hire a 4x4 for the weekend or secondly buy a cheap 4x4 but you will have to insure it with at least 3rd part only as you can not have a car uninsured at any time on the road as it must be registered as SORN. ferguson_tom
Would you not want it insured for theft as well? If so going to need normal insurance. Best bet might be to go through one of the specialists insurers like adrian flux and have a limited mileage policy you will probs be surprised how cheap it can be as its a second car and they know its a toy its normally very reasonable, under £200 is quite common prices from what i have read on other forums. Other option go for an old series landrover and get classic car insurace. Edited September 20, 2013 by ferguson_tom

four-wheel-drive
Some years ago I had one car and wanted another small one just to use to go to work I do not no if things have changed but at that time I was told that my NCB only apried to one car so a second car I would need to start from scrach this has set me thinking if I had say a car and a moped both with full NCB if I had a bang in the car could I next time swap them over so that I had a full NCB for the big car and the moped with no NCB would be cheep to insure anyway just a thought. I forgot to add if you only had weekend insurance they would not trust you not to use it on othere days even if you just forgot what day it was easily done.
