jeffflany
this is my first season pigeon shooting I use a ghost net from ai decoys but when you look from the outside you can see my son is there another net you can use for better concealment also can someone explain shotgun chokes is it a quarter in top half in bottom when using a over and under and how do you know what the notches and asterisk on the chokes are thanks for any help
wattsowatts
I use one of these nets but use another net (stealth cammo net) drapped on the outside. Using the two layers allows me to alter the hight and position of the nets giving better observation where its needed most. Using one of those 'thin' nets is not enough on its own, pigeon will always see movement and outline through it.
delburt0
Google the manufacturer of the chokes and it will tell you what the notches are for usually 1- Full 2- Improved Modified (aka Skeet 11) 3- Modified 4- Improved * Full ** 3/4 *** 1/2 **** 1/4 None cyl Or the old fashioned way little finger = Full ring finger = 3/4 index finger = 1/2 middle finger = 1/4 thumb = skeet Edited September 24, 2013 by delburt0

Tim85
I just use a Stealth Camp Net and so far have not noticed any bird spooking. I have more Crows come in to my pattern on my permission and they are said to be very wary.
delburt0
Depends how big/small your fingers are and if you have them all only if your sausages don't correspond in size as they should or your some sort of mutant Edited September 25, 2013 by delburt0
r1steele
only if your sausages don't correspond in size as they should or your some sort of mutant Maybe but it still doesn't make it work if you've some digits missing . NickB65
CAMO NET - I used to have the ghost camo net and if you are wearing camo and sit still then it is not an issue but if you are a fidget bum like me then it is too thin. I stitched my ghost net to the back of some army camo and it works well. I also have a net behind me and another covering the lower half of the front net.... twice I have had calls from the farmer asking if I was going to turn up today after he had driven past me in the field..... Chokes.... I use quarter and half and I used to shoot half top and quarter bottom but now shoot quarter top and half bottom..... basically shoot the quarter first and then half.... which barrell depends on you..... but if you use one barrell a lot then it is easier to load just the top barrell. I shoot a Fabarm Elos and they are marked 2,5,7,8 and 2 is quarter or SHORT, 5 is half and medium, 7 is three quarter and long while 8 is full and extreme. ShropshireSam
A thin ghost net at the front is fine if you can have thick netting all round and a roof to block out most of the light and put you "in shade". If you have the sun shining through then you need to double up the thickness ..... and keep still! Saying this...when the birds want to come in to a pattern they appear blind to the hide. I have had days with a single ghost net, the sun shining straight through it and the birds just kept coming in ..... but you don't get those days very often! I use two 5 m x 1.5 stealth nets doubled up with two smaller thick nets for the back and/or roof depending on the background to the hide.
