CZ550Kevlar
Do any of the up north masses know of any mid week clay shoots around the West Bromwich area, I'm up there for a Bridge conference so I'm hoping combining it with clay shooting is going to be possible. Salopian
First of all West Bromwich isn't 'Up North'. Above Watford and Watford Gap yes, but still in the Midlands. Wednesdays afternoons at Oakedge ( Shugborough Stafford) Thursdays afternoons Park Farm Ombersley. Millride is open most days which is not far from West Bromwich Ettingshall near Wolverhampton, J1 of the M54 about 20 minutes from J1 of the M5. CZ550Kevlar
I live in Dover, everything is up north for me, I work in Surrey 100 miles north west from me so Birmingham which is 160 miles north from there is definitely up North. Anyway thank you for the leads, it will be a welcome break from a bunch of fellow bridge engineers.

Squash wavy
I second Millride. Nice informal place within a sort of quarry arrangement. Normally not busy so means you can enjoy some proper practice. Also got skeet too. http://www.millride-country-sports.co.uk/SITE.html Edited October 3, 2013 by Squash wavy
CZ550Kevlar
I don't suppose Millride has a section 11 exemption? 3 of us going have licences but a colleague of ours wants to come but he has no licence. The only other choice is Oakedge, so if anyone has local knowledge of section 11 exemptions that would be very kind of you.
HDAV
Try garlands at tamworth just up the mway, not far. http://www.garlandsshootingground.co.uk/shooting-ground.asp Edited October 6, 2013 by HDAV

CZ550Kevlar
Sent them both e-mail enquiries, we are hoping Millride has an exemption as we just want somewhere nice and informal for a bit of relaxing and it's closest to where we are staying in West Bromwich. HDAV
Where in west brim are you staying, I wouldn't leave a bag of walkers in a car round there..... But there is a decent RFD at Sandwell field sports
CZ550Kevlar
I'm staying north west of West Bromwich about 2 miles from Sandwell valley country park premier inn on the A41
HDAV
The country park was well known for nocturnal activities, don't go for walk in the dark unless prepared for a big surprise! Looks like you are staying in Great Bridge!!!!!! That will be an eye opener! Can I recommend a trip to Mad O'Rourkes pies in Tipton for some food. http://www.madorourkes.com/ Edited October 6, 2013 by HDAV
CZ550Kevlar
Oakedge have confirmed they have a section 11 exemption so at the very least we can go there.
claycrasher
Sure they have one, no one will both you there, little ruff round the edges Definitely the place to go, as slimshooter says, not the prettiest place you will ever see but if all you want to do is turn up, pay your money and be left alone then its bang on. Squash wavy
I would happily take a mate with me who doesn't have a licence to shoot with me at Millride. It really is a very informal affair there.
Paladin
Millride 15 minutes from me at J7 M6 North to M54 and off the feeder road before the M54. You can see the fishing pools as you come off the motorway so it's a left and left. Enjoy.
CZ550Kevlar
Spoke to millride today and they have said as the non licence holder is under my direct supervision it will be fine, although being the idiot I am I forgot to ask how much they charge and if they have a restriction on cartridges ie plastic or felt. Although this is going to be a first for me, I have never taught a person who has never fired anything bigger than a BB gun how to shoot clays. It can't be that hard, it's not like I'm coaching for the Olympic squad.
00buck
£24 for 100 clays or £12 for 50 you can shoot any cartridges
CZ550Kevlar
£24 for 100 clays or £12 for 50 you can shoot any cartridgesExcellent I have loads of plastic wad carts to get rid of, looks like 200 clay day!Thank you for the info. What sort of setup is it there? Is it self trapping ? Edited October 16, 2013 by CZ550Kevlar
slimshooter
Nothing fancy self trapping, small sporting layout and skeet range, think they have a manual trap which is useful for beginners.
CZ550Kevlar
Sounds good enough for me, never know I might be an excellent coach!
Squash wavy
You will like it. I imagine you might be the only people in the quarry so there will be no pressure. Just teach them the three positive shooting steps that *********** preaches and they will go a long way. I didn't realise mike's name would be blanked out! How amusing
CZ550Kevlar
Went to this ground on Thursday morning and I have to admit it was actually really good, guy on site I assume is the owner was really genuine, gave us the tour and said just crack on and shoot what you want then find him and pay, only one other guy there and he left pretty much as we started £24 for 100 clays is a bargain, has skeet too. Also go to the next junction up the M54 clay ground is at 1 go to junction 2 and visit the Moreton arms pub, great food.
