neil82 Posted September 30, 2013 Report Share Posted September 30, 2013 nobody can give any serious answer to this sort of question without seeing the job, depends on how much cutting is involved to reach decent metal to weld to and what sort of finish you want, mot bodge and restoration type work are two very different things, best bet is buy your own MIG welder and learn how to use it, I never give a price on any welding job anymore, been severely done too many times Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I've been offered an N plate Tdi ( i guess this is a 200 or 300) disco, no MOT no Tax. Owner is a bit of a townie who just fancied a LR a few years ago. The inside is in OK condition but there are some holes in the wheel arches and floor. The paint is faded but seems to run fine. Wheels and tyres are very good. Had a new alternator recently and service a couple of months ago. I cannot get it to a welder to get a price. The owner wants £400 for the vehicle. So I wanted a rough idea of costs before I decide to buy it or not. Hence my question........ As it happens, I can weld and have a MiG but have VERY LITTLE time to work on it so wanted a rough idea on costs to get a pro to do it. Maybe it is as you say ... impossible without seeing it. NIGHT SEARCHER Posted October 1, 2013 Report Share Posted October 1, 2013 I did one a few years ago that i got of ebay from a farm it was a lot worse than described. I took all the seats out and all the carpet out the seat belt anchor bolts were seized solid. I got a new boot floor and inner & outer sills and they are not cheap. The new boot floor was OK but it needed a lot more welding and plating to the sides around the wheel arches. Welding the inner and outer sills was a pain in the ***. inner wing panels are time consuming. It`s when you cut out the old boot floor you find loads more work. Like Rusty fuel pipes. Brake pipes. Rusty chassis. So you start to de-rust and under seal places that you can`t get at when the new floor is welded in. But if you like getting dirty. Covered in underseal. And Welding spark burns.
