Being an ex squaddie I find it had to understand civvy calibers.. .22 .177 I am fine with... but the rest,,,,Im easily confused....anyone give me a guide... is .223 the same as 5.56Nato If someone could give me a run down to help my old fuzzy head.... JohnGalway Posted December 27, 2006 Report Share Posted December 27, 2006 There's a sticky about .223 and 5.56NATO rounds (there were also one or two threads on the subject too), as far as I can remember the NATO round creates more pressure than the .223 round therefore making it potentially dangerous in any rifle marked .223 AFAIK. Baldrick Posted December 27, 2006 Report Share Posted December 27, 2006 I can't think of many other military calibres that have a civilian equivalent/near-match, other than 7.62x51mm/.308 Win and 5.56mm/.223 Remington.
