Longchalk
I have three bouncer poles that I can use either with flocked, winged decoys, or dead birds... My newbie question is "Where do you put them in relation to the pattern of shell deeks?" Imagine if you will, that my pattern is a vee shape, with the apex pointing upwards to 12 o'clock.... I've tried the bouncers at 5 and 7 o'clock about 20-25 yards at the back of pattern, trying to mimic birds coming in to join the flock from behind. But without much luck. A retired local keeper and old pigeon hand told me in the pub the other day, that this means that birds landing in from the rear, into the wind, will come accross the bouncers first, and it can tend to make then veer off. He suggested putting them in front of the pattern instead.... But then I'm thinking, which way do you face them? If you put them flying in from the front (from 12 towards 6) , surely they would be landing the wrong the way for the wind, and would look "wrong"? May be it doesn't really matter at all.... Any advice guys? Cheers Longchalk
pigeon controller
I would place them at the front of your horse shoe so they look as if they are leaving the flock this makes them most visible for birds joining your pattern. A trick I've used in the past is to place them just in front of the hide assuming the wind off your back and put a peg in the ground under the bird with an screw in curtain ring in the top. Put some fishing braid through it and back to the hide. Pull it tight and when a bird looks interested let it go so it flaps up and down and attracts the attention of the passing bird. Longchalk
Thanks PC... I kinda figured you could put them at the front as if just leaving, as opposed to landing in, but was not sure what message this sends. Would certainly make it easier to flap them as you say. I thought about it, but at the distance I was placing them you'd have no control with the line. Will give it a go next time.

Well you live and learn.... I was putting mine to the side and rear as if coming into the pattern but not blocking the kill zone...... will try at the front next time. stu nesling
wherever the birds respond best to them! watch them coming in and move them if they put them off. but as a starting point i would say at the back pattern. i know protom1 has a french client who puts them in a line out to 150 yds behind the pattern!and it works!(food for thought)
