HDAV
Went and shot some DTL with a mate today who has shot with me loads of times and after 2 years has finally suggested "perhaps i ought to put in for liscence" !!! he didnt see the point before as he was working away overseas. Anyway he enjoyed DTL and found a trap gun too his liking... (must admit i had a go with it and it was lovely!) So he is living with his folks who come under gwent police IIRC any idea on timescales at the moment round that end of world?

steve_b_wales
Gwent are not the quickest, and used to be known as the worst force when it came to issuing, renewing or dealing with variations. I think they still hold this title!

HDAV
Well his interview is booked for after Xmas :( but before new year would have been sooner but they don't do after 4pm or 1pm Friday this seemed quite at odds with other forces who offer weekends, evening visits etc. Edited December 12, 2013 by HDAV

Dorset1973
My local force (Dorset) is 4 to 6 months, so I really do hope it's quicker up your end!!
HDAV
Still no cert, referee checked, interview done, what can take 3+ weeks?
Chris 1985
My SGC grant took four months with Gwent about this time last year, though as I recall it was only about a fortnight between the visit and my cert turning up. I got the impression that they had lost staff who weren't being replaced and so were struggling to get through the workload.
r1steele
Phone them up and ask politely what the hold up is as everything has been done and checked. Sometimes a gentle reminder can produce the goods.

steve_b_wales
South Wales Police have promised me a 7 -10 day turn around for a one for one variation. I'm posting the forms etc this morning, so let's see how long it takes. The last time I had this type of variation, it only took them 5 days, and I went and collected my certificate. QuantumX
I posted SGC to Gwent on 13th Jan, they received on 15th Jan, cashed Check on 21st Jan. No news since, i phoned to ask how long and the lady on the phone said around 8 to 12 weeks... looks like i'm in for a LONG wait... so I suppose i have to wait 8 weeks before i can even chase them :(

I may be wrong unless they refund you if it isn't granted.

If no joy, contact BASC for advice. I didn't think they were allowed to cash the cheque unless the SGC is granted. I may be wrong unless they refund you if it isn't granted. They can cash your cheque, but will refund you in full if the certificate/variation is not permitted.
