Yes in the crate -the key I found with mine is by letting them out at two hour intervals they will normally go and relieve themselves so you are ideally placed to praise etc at the point of them going this way they get the message early on -pads just prolong things it gives the message that you can go inside in some places but not others You will have accidents as well but the message gets through and you can start increasing the time gap after a few days you will be able to extend the gaps as the dog gets used to holding on As regards the howling just don't go in if its attention seeking even if it's quiet for 30 secs go in then but remember as the dogs gets better it may be crying to go out and mess so you got to be careful WIthin a week to ten days is normally when you start to see the dog get better it feels longer because your up and down with it all the time during the day it's a mixture of bit of play and then in the crate it's useful when they go a bit manic to have the crate but I don't over use during the day after a while I put my crate away and replace with normal basket only the way I have always done it there will be other ways that have worked for others I'm sure and as others have mentioned you always get the odd pup that goes off to sleep easy and never messes

I have always done the same thing with my spaniels go down every two hours and let them out never use a puppy pad get the dog used to going out from day one that way you can praise them when they go for a mess slowly build the time up between letting the dog out and they soon get it it's hard work for about a week but I have always found its done properly then

Dogs have got a way of doing what they want the spaniel I have got now I bought her a pricey John norris basket that's in the living room I also had an old plastic willko dog basket in the garage from about 15 years ago she will not use the comfy one and prefers the garage which is unheated and gets cold in winter but that's all she will use

I have also stopped a springer I had one claim in nine years for an op about £500 I got about £150 quid back also they up the preminium after about 8 years because of her age then paid out less because of her age for the op I now pay £ 20 into a pot a month it soon adds up especially if you have a dog that doesn't hardly ever go or if they do get a large bill I have a good chunk towards it if not that's the money for the next dog

As someone who has had to cover miles at the end of a hunting day looking for a lost beagle or two I can testify that they are very single minded as described above . Go for something a bit easier !

I have followed my local pack for years and had a lot of days with other packs. You can make the day what you like I like to follow the hounds and have a good workout so I try and keep up with the hounds! others have a more leisurely day. Beagling folk are always glad to see new supporters don't worry about sabs they win if people don't go who are interested. You will be fine I am sure.

My overwinter onions have good top growth but I'm not sure about them after such a wet winter in South wales. Got sharpes express for earlies and king Edwards main crop they did well last year for me.
