JONO
OK - not all shots are clean shots and I was brought up breaking the neck of winged/spluttering game. Not the most pleasant question to ask (but nevertheless an integral part of the sport) how do the majority of shooters dispatch their quarry should the shot not be fatal? Would you do as I have been taught or would you use a priest (as I have heard) to deliver a fatally stunning smack to the head (a la trout fisherman)? Your thoughts please guys'n'gals... dead-eye-dick
Would you do as I have been taught or would you use a priest :yp: Its a bit late for last rights, No most people use various neak breaking/skull crushing/back breaking tecniques. Just what ever seems to work for you, aslong as its quick it's just a means to an end - if you'll pardon the pun...
red_stag88
Always use my stick or priest, I dont break the necks of pheasants as when they are put in a brace and on the pole, if the trailer goes over a bump, the heads come off :yp:
Wonder Boy
What i do is run my thumb down the spine of the pigeon until some were between the wings i feel a small bump and then i push it until i feel it click the pigeons head flings back and forward and then the are dead i find this is the best way of dispatching them without damaging there neck bars. rjimmer
If you break a pheasant's neck, it will bleed and you will spoil the eating of it. I got a rollickong for stretching the neck of a pheasant the first day I went beating. I was told that the game dealer would not be interested in them if they had bled. A blow to the head with a priest is all that is required.
