Agreed - I tested a 3" 18gm fourlong, a lylvale (sp?) 2" 9gm and a 2.5" 14gm Eley and the 2.5" was noticeably quieter through my Baikal fully moderated

I Managed to get hold of some eley fourlong 2.5" standard cartridges, If its not hissing down over the weekend i,ll give them a go and see if they make any difference
plank06
The 2.5'' eley fourlong are the quietest I have used. The Eley 3'' subsonics are noticeably louder, much more of a crack to them!
littlerob
i have the pedretti hushpower 410 and to say i used subs by eley 3inch 18g very quite but not much more than the 18g eley fourlong 3inch been using fiocchi 19g 3 inch in size 5 and 7.5 all seem the same loudest but at £5.45 a box there getting expensive now used some bornaghi 2.5 inch 16g killed really well but seemed a bit louder and have been given some old winchester 11g ones but haven used them yet
kent
2 1/2" and 3" the length dictates more how much shot you can get in than the sound this is more about speed being below 1050 fps I use a 3" Eley shell with fibre wad and an 18grm load in an un moderated gun, its still quieter than a 20 or 12ga which is all I am really bothered about and kills well to 25yds but further than that pattern fails and its down to if you get a few lucky ones in the right spots
