12 bore black powder carts - 4,5,6 or 7 - any size shot

Gentlemen, I am hoping to create a special atmosphere by using black powder carts as peg number selectors on our next small shoot (all guns to use the carts on a drive of their choice on the day). So far I have found a single box can be purchased from Just Carts for the princely sum of £20. Does anyone know where I can get a box (or maybe 2) local to the NW (30 miles radius of Chester) for Saturday after next, at a price that is less expensive than the gun I shall shoot a few from ?

Any help really appreciated.

first, all guns need to be aware that cleaning them immedate after the shootings done with boiling water then a water displacement spray, to dry and clean up.

these will cost a fortune anyway, and if you are adament you can have some homeloaded. nitro substitute is more common, but still needs a regimented clean.

i appreciate what you are trying to achieve, i have heard that some BP shells have been sold for about £30 / 25.

i hope you find what you are looking for.

Thanks Cookoff - I am replicating what happened on a good day I attended - quite pleasant to see the odd cloud of smoke and a hear a deep booom. Since it was single cartridge we all just cleaned our guns as normal - mine is a stainless bore so no problems. Looks like its got to be Just Cartridges at £19 + per box of 25, if at all.

Cheers

used to have a couple of black powder driven hammer gun days many years ago used to use a cartridge called Buffalo..........if you pick a damp drizzly day to shoot driven game and the guns are in a hollow maybe next to a damp wood.........you will re-creat "the fog of war"........thats why when we were fighting Bony' we would stop every now and then, to have a breather and a drink..to allow the smoke to clear so you could see what you are shooting at !

there are a type of cartridge about that uses Pirodex a BP substitute that is none corrosive, but still smokes the same

Easiest route would be to get someone to load a box using Triple Seven or Pyrodex-you don't need a licence to buy the stuff. As for cleaning the guns afterwards, if you do use BP then cheap windscreen wash (you can buy it premixed in Wilko's etc for a couple or quid) is as good as you will ever need.

Black powder are easy to load up - have just loaded 50 for a mate to use on his boxing day shoot

If you do not have a black powder licence then pyrodex will have the same effect although a few less flames!!

If you were nearer then I would have done you some

Thanks for the thought roughshooter. Four Bore may well come up with an idea, but thanks anyway !
