dave a
Hi My name is David Arnold the son of Richard Arnold the author of many shooting books like pigeon shooting, automatic and repating shotguns, clay pigeon shooting etc. I have not shot for a number of years due to diffucilty in obtaining land when we moved to Nottingham but would like to know if anyone in the Nottingham area has room for an extrea gun a few times a year, or of anywhere where pigeon shooting would be available. Hope to hear from you soon David Arnold
sutty
Hi David and welcome to the forum, I am sure some-one on here may be able to help you out, the only other advice i can give is to start knocking on doors and dont be put off by "knock backs and no's". Given your family "history" i am sure a few "choice"name drops in the right areas will also prove fruitful. There is also a pigeon shooting club NPPC, that offers members shooting over a large area for a reasonable yearly fee, i am not sure however of the location of their grounds with respect to were you live but i am sure others on here can help you out with that one, or contact them at www.shootpigeons.co.uk. Good luck with your search and happy new year. Regards Sutty
Catamong
Hi David, I have read your father's book several times, and I regard it as a classic, and a damn good read. Pigeon shooting technology has moved on a fair bit over the past few years, and there is certainly a shortage of available land in many areas. My advice would be to practice what your father preached, and get out there and look for the birds feeding on the various crops, then make a direct approach in person to the landowner or farmer and offer to keep the birds off "for the day". Most farmers will not refuse this type of approach, as it is not perceived as a blanket permission to shoot as and when. You then need to build up trust with that particular farmer and then start working on his neighbours..!! Good luck. Cat.
dave a
Thanks for your kind comments over my Late Fathers book as you say it has moved on a bit since then, as luck would have it got a bit of contact via a customer today who is going to sort me out some land to shoot over on his uncles farm so lady luck has played a part for me again However if anyone in Nottingham needs an extra gun anytime I would like to meet with them
