Vented rib repair tool

I was looking around the garage yesterday. I have some aluminium angle, which is slightly too thin. I was considering sticking two pieces together - glue or rivet. I still think hardwood would take the load.

Just thought about your idea. If you cut one long piece and two short - for "legs" at either end - that should work. Superglue would hold them.

Just bought : 290712038517 from the auction site 1/4 x 3/4 but the smallest length they do is 4" but thats ok i will try it with the wiper puller - will have to remember to take some pics so you can see how it went :)

Very good young man, you could help a lot of guys with this one:

Pictures would be a +.. Eager to see it..

Well ........... the brass bar arrived so i cracked on with the dent job.................

I found that the angled jaws of the puller wouldn't fit under the dents in the rib :(

So i teased the dents up slightly using a wide flat screwdriver (exactly the tool that i didn't want to use) so that the puller could lift the rib against the brass block.

Well it did the trick and the rib is now dent free and very flat without ripples :)

I did take some pics but the camera is playing up and it looks like i've lost em :(

So for around £13 i have sorted out 2 bad dents and 3 very slight dents :)

JOB'S A GOOD UN :good:

Well done. The only real snag doing dents is getting the arms under in the first place.

It is easier to start a bit further along - where there is a better gap - and keep moving along. Eventually you can get the arms under the lowest point.

Could the jaws of your wiper arm puller be ground down to give a thinner profile?

The profile of the puller arms is fine but its the angle they are at when the puller is adjusted to the correct width - when they are close together they are at around 45 degrees (like a W shape) - so adjusting the angle would make it would work better!

Just had a look.

This could be overcome by moving the leg pivots towards the centre bolt. You could chop the end off the central solid arm - drill new pivot holes. Any problem with the v-shaped device which holds the legs in - could also be overcome by moving the holes further down the leg.

Yes that could fix it but looking at it closely - the arms are on a spring loaded pivot so it might not be that easy.

If the angle of the puller was altered - it could cause the weakening of the metal at the point of the angle too.........

So it does look like the proper tool IS the best tool for the job :good:

So get making em Gordon :good:
