Gordon R
I would be interested to know how the windscreen wiper arm puller works. You just need the brass block bridge (on the Murray Vent tool) to place on the rib. I'm sure hardwood would probably suffice.
russian sniper
Yep i've been looking for a bit of brass on ebay but its all round rods on there.... Was thinking of using the brass bar that goes between a pair of door handles and cutting a bit out of 1 face like the proper one.
Gordon R
I was looking around the garage yesterday. I have some aluminium angle, which is slightly too thin. I was considering sticking two pieces together - glue or rivet. I still think hardwood would take the load. Just thought about your idea. If you cut one long piece and two short - for "legs" at either end - that should work. Superglue would hold them. russian sniper
Well ........... the brass bar arrived so i cracked on with the dent job................. I found that the angled jaws of the puller wouldn't fit under the dents in the rib :( So i teased the dents up slightly using a wide flat screwdriver (exactly the tool that i didn't want to use) so that the puller could lift the rib against the brass block. Well it did the trick and the rib is now dent free and very flat without ripples I did take some pics but the camera is playing up and it looks like i've lost em :( So for around £13 i have sorted out 2 bad dents and 3 very slight dents JOB'S A GOOD UN
Gordon R
Well done. The only real snag doing dents is getting the arms under in the first place. It is easier to start a bit further along - where there is a better gap - and keep moving along. Eventually you can get the arms under the lowest point. Could the jaws of your wiper arm puller be ground down to give a thinner profile? Edited November 11, 2013 by Gordon R
russian sniper
The profile of the puller arms is fine but its the angle they are at when the puller is adjusted to the correct width - when they are close together they are at around 45 degrees (like a W shape) - so adjusting the angle would make it would work better! Gordon R
Just had a look. This could be overcome by moving the leg pivots towards the centre bolt. You could chop the end off the central solid arm - drill new pivot holes. Any problem with the v-shaped device which holds the legs in - could also be overcome by moving the holes further down the leg.
russian sniper
Yes that could fix it but looking at it closely - the arms are on a spring loaded pivot so it might not be that easy. If the angle of the puller was altered - it could cause the weakening of the metal at the point of the angle too......... So it does look like the proper tool IS the best tool for the job So get making em Gordon
Gordon R
I can make the tool - which works - but wouldn't win any prizes for style. A shooting friend - Mark - is the perfectionist I need. He is looking at my Murray Vent Tool this week to see if he can get the parts laser cut. welshwarrior
I have both the Murray Tool and home made tool based on a main spring compression tool for Vee springs again using a brass bar. Unfortunately I lent my home made a better tool to someone off a forum and they never returned it.

welshwarrior
Rather annoyed to say the least still trying to find another spring compressor to service sidelock at a good price otherwise I'm going to have bite the bullet and spend £45.
