It's what it says it is - a .22 rifle. Any .22 rifle. I have a .22 Hornet on my FAC which is described as a .22 Rifle and that is how the autority was worded when I purchased it. JonathanL Posted November 11, 2013 Report Share Posted November 11, 2013 I checked this out with my feo and two rfd`s and they all said if your fac states .22RF then any .22RF rifle is ok, including the magnum. Im thinking LR is not a cartridge or bullet type just an abbreviation for long rifle and that maybe opens another can of worms. i.e. is a long rifle not just a `long` rifle. Just thinking out loud here, who is to say that maybe .22lr could include a cf as it does not state otherwise. Not suggesting anyone should try and purchase or acquire that has a .22lr slot Am I wrong? What do you all think? It refers to a specific chambering called '.22 Long Rifle'. There are several other .22 rim-fire chamberings such as .22 Short and .22 Long. It doesn't refer to the actual physical characteristics of the firearm. J. That's my point I know he had only been cleared for a 22lr as we shared his first permission he was told at the interview he could not get a WMR then they send a FAC with 22 rifle. njc110381 Posted November 11, 2013 Report Share Posted November 11, 2013 This subject has been debated many times and the answer is always the same. .22RF is exactly that, and if the police/region/Chief Constable write .22RF on your FAC then legally there is nothing to stop you buying any .22RF. In reality some RFD will not sell you a WMR on that designation, (that is entirely up to them, they don't have to sell you anything if they don't want to), and some regions may argue they don't mean .22WMR, only LR, well that is their own dumb fault for listing it as RF then, if they wanted it specific they should have written it specific. For example if your application stated .22LR like mine and that is recorded, but the cert arrived with .22rf - could it just be standard categories the certs have? I think I emailed my FEO a while ago about the very same thing and he came back with it was only .22LR as that was what I applied for. As mentioned above; I have a .22 Hornet which was acquired on a slot worded exactly like that and I have had it through at least two renewals. J.
