I think there is a feeling among some that a pheasant should only be shot in flight with a shotgun, and ideally at a great height. Outrage seems to be greatest when an air rifle is used.

Disagree. On the farm I shoot there are no pheasant released but pheasant breed naturally and this year there are plenty of them. They are not shot or driven onto a row of guns. The only ones to get shot are the ones I shoot with my .22l and that to eat. Very sustainable and selective. I mainly shoot cocks, leaving the hens to breed. :good:

Perfect.....All I do is shoot pheasant eating vermin and the birds find a nice peacefull spot and do the rest.

My new patch is showing rabbit where there has been none for decades!

 

All the really old keepers did was vermin control to give the birds an undisturbed chance hence their name.....keepers!

Anyone can tip scores of poults in a pen for release and accept a percentage lost to vermin. Vermin control in my book is 365 days a year!
