The Lawn Ranger
Hi, what's your thoughts on leaving decoys in a pond permanently? The reason I'm asking is because one of the ponds I shoot struggles to attract flighting birds at night despite literally hundreds of birds getting off it at times. I have a ton of barley coming on Tuesday so that should help for starters. Thanks in advance!
TIDES EDGE
No they will scare off any duck that land some ponds are better filighted in the morning when the duck arrive which maybe what is happening on your pond
r1steele
If possible and time allows you to do so, try to push the ducks off during the day. This usually (not always) gets the ducks flighting back in the evenings to feed as they cannot get to the food during the day. You could also try feeding the pond small amounts in the afternoon to start with so there isn't any food during the day but there is for the evening/night. kent
You have yourself a roosting place not a feeding place. Most likely its little disturbed during the day and a bit too deep for dabbling duck to feed. Respect it for what it is and shoot it at a different time
The Lawn Ranger
Thanks for the replies, a re-think of tactics may be required then.
Colc08
Push them off during the day and feed in the shallows. Build your feed up to the point where there is a little left over and then you'll know roughly where you are in numbers. Bare in mind that ducks will flight on the moon if its bright enough and also will soon stop of on splashes if there has been a lot of rain so its not always balck and white.
